Monster wagon

Post by AndrewT » Fri May 18, 2007 4:20 pm

As most ppl are probably aware I've ordered a couple of new bits for the wagon as listed in my signature...

3" is getting abit boring so may aswell go all-out and see just how capable/rediculous I can make it. Who knows maybe it won't work at all but there is really only one way to find out!

Can't wait to see the 6" kit in the flesh....apparently its very different in design to most 3" kits. For instance the three radius rod support blocks are now just one component (I think a few people on here have 2 or 3" kits built like this). Also there are not many long bolts used, rather the parts which bolt to the body are connected using most of the original L series body bolts. I'm going to need very long flexible brake lines at the front...longer radiator hoses....possibly a longer accellerator cable....god knows how the turbo dump pipe is going to clear the steering arm now. Oh and the exhaust will have to be changed heaps to bring it up to the body again. I'm assured that everything in the kit is structurally very very strong, lots of extra bracing here and there. It has to be because lets be honest, it's gonna cop a beating!

It will be good to finally have some decent brakes, better wheel bearings, stronger struts, rear handbrake and 15" wheels. The Crossbred kit is awesome because it brings so many upgrades in one hit.

I should be ready to bolt it all together in about 3 weeks' time once everything arrives so stay tuned and lets hope a driveable car comes out the other end!

I havn't thought that much about the legalities. It's illegal - not much to think about really.
At the end of the day if it gets yellow stickered I can just take the lift back out again, its not hard.

But I think with the big wheels and some appropriate guard flares it will hopefully look fairly balanced. (you know how rediculous a 3" lifted car looks with little 13's still on it).

Andrew did you get the engine through the pits already?
Toyota 105 Series LandCruiser (that nobody on here wants to really hear about).
RX Touring Wagon - fitted out for 4WDing (currently collecting dust).
RX Project - will be road only at this stage (and currently taking way to long to finish).

No, havn't had a reason to. From what I've heard its a breaze anyway. I know several ppl who have passed EJ20turbo in L series over the pits without any issue at all (running standard brakes and everything). I'll have WRX brakes which can only help my cause.

Update - Spoke to Gareth just then. Crossbred kit got posted this morning so I should hopefully see it by the end of the week.
Spoke to the lift kit company on Saturday, the kit should be done by the end of this week and will take another week or so to get here.

okies....

Started installing the Crossbred kit. So far I've only got as far as doing the rear left hub/backing plate/drum handbrake assembly. I got slowed down by the fact my rear wheel bearings needed doing aswell. Done those now aswell.
Also I'm going to have to use standard GX rear discs as I just discovered the RS turbo ones I had don't fit the custom backing plates.
Anyways hopefully next weekend I'll make some faster progress - the other side should get done very quick now that I've done it once.
The fronts look very very easy to do...and the rear handbrake looks like alot of messing around but nothing too hard.

6" lift kit is apparently in the mail and should be here today infact, or possibly tomorrow.
