Rims are done!!!

Image

Hoping to pick them up with tyres fitted tomorrow. And I’ll have to scrub those as they look like dirty rubbish near that fresh paint!

I’m excited about this but am now worried that the rest of the suspension will look like shite.

Meh, one step at a time!

That’s it for now. Can’t wait to pick them up with the tyres refitted.

Cheers

They look so delicious all painted up - the best 4 stud wheels out there for the Brumby!

This (below image) all started out with a simple headunit and IHF radio install. Since I needed to remove the door cards I thought it a good time to finally install the central locking I got a number of years a go. On the list while I’m here is a front and rear dash cam - again, had that one for a long time too.

Thinking about it now, I probably should have run my power window wiring :???: That will happen one day too.

Here is how Redback was left at dinner time (and will be until the next time I get to work on her again):

Things definitely got out of hand! Two weekends left to get everything done - mainly painting of calipers and the bullbar on top of finishing the above and an oil change.

Cheers

Ya see? See what a fresh coat of paint does to a man? Now everything else has to be brought up to the same standard

They're going to look mint on the car. You can leave the UHF location a surprise until the big day. I'm wondering now if it's a hide-away unit with all the controls on the handpiece, they're quite popular these days.

Hahaha Sam… yeah it’s a rabbit hole that’s for sure!

I’m still chasing the green I want to paint the calipers, it has to be the correct green otherwise I’ve got a crisp yellow in line which is what will probably end up happening at the rate things are going…

Bumpty, it’ll be so good once it’s finished!! But as we know, all builds are never finished! I bet Sam has stuff on his list to do still. I agree about these rims being the best out there for the Brumby - any 4x140 Subarus actually (Ruby Scoo has them too)!

I hope you still get to park beside us Sam at the show and shine, surely it’s not THAT elitist that you are required to park away from the nuggets in the regular show and shine category.

Praying for a dry weekend to get some painting done. So much to do! :-x

Update on things ordered:
- I picked up the rear discs mid week and thus have put the flexible hose part in for a template for braided lines to finish off a Brumby braided line kit I was given.
- I dropped into a paint joint and now have two cans of the colour I’m chasing being made up.

I pick up both on Monday and hopefully get the rims with tires fitted then too.

I’ve also decided not to share pics of these items fitted until after Subinats - sorry not sorry! I probably won’t even share them with Subarino Dave until he sees it for himself at or just before Subinats because he doesn’t like the idea of this

100% need to get this done! I’m waiting on Sean from Boxer Beauty and he’s got me nervous as I’m leaving in about a week and a half so it’s starting to cut it fine with Auspost in the mix :mmm: I realise he’s flat out as I believe he’s doing all the sticker packs etc for Subinats. I got my show and shine sticker in the mail the other day

The rims definitely need that sticker, they look very naked the way they are now, but looking very fresh too! The centre caps polished up well and it’s the first time I’ll use them since getting the Scorpions back in the 2010 era!

This is how she sits at this point in time.

I’ve essentially got two weekends to have everything sorted and the Brumby packed to go as we’re leaving on the 9th after work :-x

Fun times! Wish I decided I was doing this earlier but then again I didn’t have my tax return to “play” with.

Leaving on the 9th? Getting there good and early! I'm leaving on the 12th...

Looks like you've got a fair bit going on and things in progress, hope you get it all sorted in time ;)

Hoping to leave then and make a real trip of it. Plans are:
- lap of Mt Panorma
- day hike in the Blue Mountains - need to find a suitable walk for this
- drive Redback Brumby over the big coat hanger
- possibly catch up with an old mate that lives up that way

Still got heaps to do. But one big step forward was painting the bullbar tonight. I hope it comes out good as I’m impatient AF when it comes to painting ;(

I etch primed it after giving it a rust buster treatments and rubbing it down again. Then I thought I’d check out the raptor spray paint on a test area, next minute it’s painted! I’ll get to see it more cured tomorrow, hopefully the paint lasts a long time! There were so many spots I realised I missed or didn’t get to properly before painting, and again a) impatience, b) lack of time to properly sort it and c) it’s no show pony bullbar to begin with - primary objective of getting it sorted to be one colour seems to be achieved!

Now to get on with the calipers - one is super dirty and greasy courtesy of a leaking CV boot  Fun Fun. Hoping to have them primed tomorrow night for a first coat the night after followed by a second coat the following day.

Then it’s the aforementioned CV boot fix, electrical then interior once electrical stuff is sorted.

I’ll be a photo finish - or we leave on Wednesday or something :mmm: Won’t be happy with that but we’ll see.

Keen to show some pics - probably best to do that after the event I think.

Cheers

Ok ok, I can’t help myself with more pics!

Bullbar “resto” - wanted to keep all of my stickers but the chopped fingers were too intricate to tape off and sand around so it died with the rest of the original paint I got the bar with. He’s a picture essay of the process that took way longer than it did to write out this post:

Image

The bullbar took two cans of Raptor General use paint - then I found several areas I missed so I needed another can and I reckon I got an awesome finish that was far more consistent. Brake and hub parts copped some paint too. Calipers done, no sneaky pics of them yet; and I gave the headlight backing covers/plates a lock of paint as they would look quite average with that fresh bar work! Another picture essay of the above:

Image

All parts are home now. I couldn’t have done that paint work without access to an AC controlled room to use at work in this current weather.

Tomorrow - Saturday - the refit and fix of the list mentioned in a previous post goes ahead full tilt.

And I’ve got my UHF mount to fit up that I’m quite excited about as I think it’s really neat. More on that later!

Cheers

Well we didn’t leave tonight as planned. I’m still putting some major components back together - such as the brakes!

Two things happening at once here:
1) converting to rear discs
2) fitting braided brake lines

Still need to do an oil change, fit bullbar and tidy up the interior.

Then pack and quick road test before officially heading off for our trip!

Cannot wait to see pics of it all back together with freshly painted bits.
Hope all goes well, with last couple of jobs so you can hit the road too...!

Still at home. Still got some interior bits to put back in, then clean up, pack and leave.

Bit bummed about our late departure from the original plan but the good thing is we’re not in a rush so I’m not stressing about that. Just riding the emotional roller coaster of the ups and downs. Examples: stripping a castellated nut and hoping the replacement one did the trick (it did), fitting the bullbar and then fitting it out with all of its indicators etc, stuffing my phone’s screen so all the pics I took today are stuck there until I can get a new screen. Now on a replacement phone my sister sorted me with but hadn’t used it yet. Glad it wasn’t this phone that died.

So no pics, and no departure yet. Today was great weather for a drive - and for working on the brumby. Easy! This is what I needed on Sunday…

We’re officially rolling!

Image

^ fuelling up in the next town enroute from home. Was hoping to make it further but didn’t want to push the fuel rag too far…

Image

^ Had to stop at Deni to get this iconic photo location! So much better to do when the carpark is empty! Looks awesome facing the camera rather than getting a bum pic.

Currently camped in a town called Barmedman in NSW. Tomorrow northern Sydney area to visit Boxer Beauty. We’ll go via Bilpin and check out Shield’s Orchard while we’re there.

Brumby is going well, eating up the kms. Stez is serving us well too!

Cheers

Yeah they’re all temporarily closed because it’s not Apple season. That didn’t stop us getting a pic out the front with their sign though.
The cidery was open a little bit up the road, my wallet is a bit lighter now :mmm:

Now at Boxer Beauty to pick up some stickers etc - my Scorpion rims will look much better after this visit.

Plan now is to head back to Sydney and take a trip over the big coat hanger. Then work out what to do before meeting up with Subarino and some other Brumby nuts that are also arriving tonight.

That’s it for now!

Cheers

I love eating apples, but since I have a Gastric Lapband fitted, they do not go down so well.
