taza wrote:Far out how much lift do you have in the rear of that? Looks like its 6" or so!!
3 inch blocks, Honda civic front springs and 27 inch tyres. Total all up of about 5 or 6 inches. This is also without the rear bar that's quite heavy with a full jerry can and the spare tyre. That'll bring it down about an inch I reckon. Still looks awesome though!
taza wrote:Looking good though but she does need a good wash and polish :)
I think if I polish her the paint might fall off, it's going to be the car wash for me - auto non-touch of course :D
Alex wrote:Awesome Bennie. Good to see its rolling along :-)
Yeah it's going to be an exciting week this week!

And I knew I forgot to share something in my last post. I "lashed out" on some extended brake lines and went with a braided set. I got an extra 3 inches to match the lift kit where needed. The rear really only needed 2 at the most but it still fits well. I'll have to get photos of the fitted result later, but here they are with the old flexible lines:

From left to right: Front brake lines, rear disc flexible lines and the rear body to swing arm lines (extra three inches that should be max 2. 1.5 would have probably been ideal!)

Image

With these lines and new discs on the front end I'd imagine that my braking will me much more responsive again over the old lines and discs. I'm looking forward to see what the difference is.

Cheers

SHE'S ALIVE!!!

Now to get my battery back, it was "borrowed" by dad... Brakes will hopefully be bled tonight, they're pretty important! A tiny bit of wiring needs to be tidied up, rear bar swapped for a stock one so I can drive R.S. and still work on the bar in the shed; driver's seat needs to be installed and the coolant level checked again.

I'm stoked though!

Cheers

Lucky for me that happened today!
Tweety wrote:if you're anything like me you wont sleep tonight.
Sure won't! I'll be thinking of exactly how I want to do this rear bar - I've really only got this weekend to get it sorted, otherwise it'll be next year before it's back on and sorted...

Any time mate!

Yeah she is!

Nah it'll probably be another month - I've just ordered the LSD today, waiting to hear back from the guy so I can pay them. Speaking of pay... Frog... :???: I'll get on it ;)

So here she was last night having her brakes bled - thanks for the pedal pushing without a driver's seat dad!

The new brake lines: Front:

Rear:

Image

I've also replaced the flexible hose between the rear caliper and solid line on the swing arm with the same stuff but with the standard length.

Due to not having the rear bar on at the moment the spare tyre is in the rear boot area - held in by a bolt that's using a factory captive nut in the floor:

Image

^ Fits very nicely.

In the driveway after a trip into town then a bit of a poke around in the forest out back of the property. I didn't have a go at any of the tracks due to being solo without recovery gear - good forward planning on my part!

Image

The rear end is so high up without the rear bar, lucky for me it's not bouncing all over the road. Can't wait to get the bar work done and back on - it's weird looking without it!

And one lame poser shot - I should have framed this one better, but anyway, I'm stoked!

I hope to get up to the snow, I'm going to really miss being a part of the season! Kez and I have decided not to head up there this year in the hope that I'll secure full time teaching somewhere - or be able to fill my time with C.R. teaching.

Video uploading... :D

YEAH SHE'S BACK!!!

This morning at Hotham:

Image

Mt Feathertop and the Razorback Ridgeline, Mt Buffalo in the distance on the left:

Image

Mt Buffalo in the background:

Image

Typical tourist shot, couldn't help myself this time around:

Image

Looking south behind Chalet Hotham; one day there will be a chalet built here - prob in the next 5 years!

Image

Last night's drive up:

Start time and altitude out the front of the Harrietville pub:

Image

And at the highest point of the Alpine Road, just north of the peak of Mt Hotham:

Image

(^ a pretty good time considering I wasn't really pushing it and the fog encountered, at some points I was only following the lines on the road - local knowledge is good for that sometimes!)

And the very mild fog I encountered after leaving the tree line, stock high beams only in this image:

Image

^ Tacho still not working, it's on my to do list! And this fog is a mild night - when I say fog I should mention it's actually fast moving clouds... I've driven up here when you can't see a foot past the front bar of the car. Good times!

Will be back up there next week, looking forward to it!

Cheers

Usually up here yes, but when it's winter and there's the chance of snow/ice on the road. 4wd and AWD up there are a god send - no need to fit chains 90% of the time, and with the subaru L's 4wd "on the fly" it's super convenient!

So to answer your question, that drive I didn't have it engaged, but the dash light is dimly lit due to the lift kit putting pressure on the 4wd lever, this then wore out the notch or the pin on the end of the switch. I've since cut, repositioned and welded the upright to the lever so it's sitting in the factory position - but it's pretty sloppy after 50k km of pressure wearing every link in the system a little bit :(
thunder039 wrote:it must take you a while bennie to drive to hotham from cobaw?
About 4 hours door to door - winter a little longer mainly due to the tourist who can't drive in an alpine environment! I really love driving in the snow, white road with a different "dull" noise about it!

Certainly is! The Great Alpine Road really is a highway during the warmer months - semi's, low loaders etc all travel this road to cut time travelling from Eastern Vic to Central/Western Vic and vice versa.

If you check it out on youtube you'll find plenty of videos of motoring enthusiasts who have made videos of their trips up there, usually flogging it up from Harrietville - that's the real "mountain climb" feel.

After overheating the EJ at idle last night by knocking the thermo fan switch when I was working under the dashboard I've gone out and got a rocket or missile switch so that it won't happen again. It's simple, cheap and effective.

It also allows me to still select "off" and "on" when the cover is open; auto being the position the switch is in when the spring loaded cover is closed:

Image

Off position with cover open:

Image

On position with the cover open:

Image

As soon as that cover is closed the switch is forced back to the Auto position which will ensure the fans come on unless there's another issue in the system.

So far there's no sign of HG leaks. This should hopefully keep for another 100k km - wishful thinking, but I can't afford to be fixing HG's at the moment :(
