G'day Rob, welcome to the forum.

Probabily best to read this and remember that you're reading for info on the L series only.

After reading that, any other questions you have others will beable to answer ;)

Cheers

Yeah it will work but stock up on gearboxes and take out life insurance, they don't last with that much power and it gets abit hairy sometimes when you have the ability to break traction on the wheels that are steering you at practically any speed.
It's not that hard to do, all the info is around here, spend a good few hours reading up on the forum.

its an awesome conversion.

i have EVERYTHING you need to do it here if you're keen. When i say everything, i mean everything. Custom radiator, chopped down wiring loom, 2.5 inch exhaust, low km import dual range gearbox, adapter plate, cut xmember, evrything!

no chassis mods involved. Its a pretty strait forward conversion.

cheers

Same size in capacity but the turbo is lower static compression to the NA EJ20.

Most likely. I don't know much about these but I'm sure they have some sort of Factory BOV that's plumbed back into the air intake so not to trip out the ECU.

Hope this helps a bit.

this conversion will increse the fun factor on your L series by x100. just take it easy on the gearbox and you'l be fine.

go check out Keffa's car for a first hand look at all the bits u need (for sale too), he can explain it.

LOL at the BOV question.
You can put shiny pod filters on them too. :)

they have a stock bov which makes a nice psht noise which is well than loud enuf. Otherwise youll need a semi or full plumb back bov.

EJ or EA?? If you've got the standard 1.8 litre motor in there its an EA and would be worth upgrading to the EJ in most people's opinion...

2" would restrict it slightly as the stock exhaust on an RS is 2.25". At least it is as it comes off the dump pipe. But you will get away with it.
3" is absolute overkill - totally not needed unless you are modifying for big horsepower.

ok now im totally confused

some people said that the EJ20T/G

just fits right in to a l series

but other people say that you need to do some welding and cutting to the chassis rails

sorry to keep bringing this up but i just want to know that im making the right choice engine wise

thanks
Rob

That is right on the money. A better/newer dump pipe is a good upgrade but you only need to go back as far as the flange on a standard motor.

The EJ20 turbo will fit an L series with out doing any cutting to chassis rails and that is a definite. No confusion about it. You do need the crossmember modded to suit the up pipe though.

Yep. I think some of the confusion might be exactly what needs cutting/welding and exactly what car is being talked about.

EJ20G into L series car;
Chassis rails = No modification required
Engine crossmember = Cut/weld slightly to clear turbo exhaust manifold OR swap for an engine crossmember from a EA82turbo L series (such as Vortex or RX Turbo) but these are abit rare these days.

EJ20G into MY series car;
Chassis rails = Cut/weld to widen slightly to clear the plastic engine timing covers
Engine crossmembers = Cut/weld slightly to clear turbo exhaust manifold OR swap for an engine crossmember from a EA81turbo MY series but these would be near impossible to find.

All this info is in the sticky thread about putting EJ engines into L or MY cars at the top of the Conversions section.
