Subaru EJ in VW 1303S

Post by Bugaru » Fri Oct 01, 2010 4:21 am

I intend to fit a Subaru Ej engine into my VW.
I have 2 options.

1. A Subaru Imreza Subaru Impreza 1.8 GL 4X4 -94
Chassie number GF6BLOEJ021804

OR

2. Subaru Legacy Estate 2.0 4WD -92

Question: What is the difference between this two motors concerning
fitting it to my VW gearbox?
Can I use the same Kennedy adapter for the two motors or...?
Can I use spareparts between the two engines?

Thanks for help.

New Subaru fan / Erik

Both motors are almost identical, except for their capacity.

There may be a few electrical differences too

Go the 2.0, more power and most likely will be Multi Point fuel injected.

The 1.8 might be single point fuel injected

2L Legacy motor will more than likely be a quad cam unit, mine was (JDM) and punch out a lot more power, both have similar fuel injection & you'll need to run the computer.

Its Sweden, not Japan, so i doubt the NA EJ20 will be DOHC

Have you got pictures of each engine?

hope u are going to put a good custom gear box for it .as it will not last long
there was one in darwin not long ago but the custom box out of a vw big brother sports car and blow it to pieces $$$ cost price now $5,000 to rebuild it .
i think it had a late WRX engine in it .was making big hp on boost

Its only the turbo motors that break VW gearboxes
Ive had an EJ22 in my bug with a stock tranny for a while now and given it hell and not broken anything

Dad's run a 13B rotary infront of a VW gearbox without any issues - that was in his rally car quite a few years ago now.

I've also seen a kermit green kombi that features a 3.9 litre holden V6 running behind a version 3 gearbox - the stronger of the factory boxes. AFAIK its going well without any issues - can't remember the website though I'm sorry.

Cheers

How the feck are you breaking kombi boxes with an N/A ?
I've got 2 mates running EJ20T behind stock bug boxes
one went for 2 years before breaking the other is still going, both cars are regularly down the strip

Like Bennie my 13B rota bug went for 13 years too with no breakages,
