Actually, i think this may only apply to single point fuel injected models.

Sorry, meant to post this earlier but got distracted by something shiny (*cough* Gran Turismo 5 *cough*)

This is everything I have from when I was doing my EJ18 conversion, I was told the EJ16 was the same also.

FSM Scans

I have most of them in high resolution if you need it.

Jordan ! You've moved again?

Thanks guys I shall have a look in time at the links.Hey even my 86 4GLTA ECU 3 plugger has some EGR control, well it is suppose to not operate below a certain temp or work above a certain speed. It does not have these limits - works all the time.

The donk came out of a crashed Impreza 1996 under yella oil cap - got the loom and ECU expertly removed by Damo666 and donated to a good home :)

Nope, all (four?) the Australian MPFI EJ16/18s I've looked at have been like this.

Anyone know if you can lift a brumby (93) to avoid chassis rail modification when dropping a DOHC ej25 in?

If so how much is needed?

Do you really need a DOHC motor? an EJ22 has got plenty of power and a hell of a lot cheaper to buy or even a EJ20.
Have a look at 92 brumby he has only got a SOHC EJ20 in it and it goes well even with 30" tyres.

Actually I'd just like an answer to my question if possible :)
Does it matter what I want? It doesn't effect anyone else....
Cheers.

Tim (the opening poster of this thread) had a 4" lift in his MY wagon at one point, still needed the rail mod to fit the DOHC motor.
It's only a minor mod, not structural, easy to do and if done well - not obvious to look at. If your heart is set on a DOHC motor, just do it.

i reckon with the 6inch lift i had in my car the DOHC would have fit but if you want dohc just do the rail mod like andrew said

Is it any easier to fit the early ej25s (e.g outback 99) versus the 2006-2010 forester engines?

I can get a 2010 motor for a good price is all.

Ideal donor car for EJ conversion?

Post by ajcmbrown » Thu Jul 11, 2013 10:08 am

While pondering an EJ conversion, it dawned on me that there must be an "ideal" donor car for the job, not what is possible, but for example, what would be the best use of the parts available from just one car without cutting chassis rails etc, Forester two litre EJ with manual D/R g/box, so that I can use drive shafts, diff assy, wheels, brakes, steering column etc.

Is this feasible in just one model?

Am I being overly optimistic in thinking that I could do a drive-line update without having to make major modifications like fitting an EJ25 for example?

My old Brumby that I have on the farm (2 actually) which I am contemplating putting on the road would be a lot more enjoyable if it were for example a EJ20-EJ22 N/A manual D/R gearbox with matching rear diff, drive shafts, upgraded brakes, front suspension?, etc.

What model would give me the best "bang for my buck" if I were to buy just one donor car?

I would think that there would be others who would find this interesting before deciding on an engine/gearbox combo that could need extra parts to be sourced from different models.

I'm sure it's been done. Same as an EJ22 SOHC conversion pretty much.

Cheers

Barry,

I found that post of AndrewT's of how to make your own adaptor plate here

Also, this might be worth a read for you too.

I'll update the last link as I've done some new things that are worth knowing about in my opinion.

Cheers
