If you don't drive it like Taza you'll be right with a turbo. But I'd be doing a full turbo conversion from a wreck or a half cut - after all, if you're going to do it you need to do it right
A turbo in the L series won't have you breaking things more often if you go about things the right way. Obviously the turbo engine will produce more power etc etc, so if everything from there back is in good condition it should be fine, it's not the first lifted L series that's had a turbo EJ...
Cheers

Sorry mate, but it is unavoidable!taza wrote:why bother upgrading to more power if you not going to drive fast and like an idiot. It's pointless.
Seriously, more power comes with more responsibility not more stupidity. I worry about the upcoming generations! I'm sure you've seen the stupid signs they've got in Qld now?!

Its been a while since i drove my baby, So today i decided to drive it to work. Everything was fine and she drove perfectly. After work, I got in the car turned the key and bulp bulp she would not fire. Cranked fine, put refused to fire. Lol.
I tell you, This car can sense when Paul is back in Perth..., to the day!!!! LOL
Anyway so after a quite cheat with the guru, We diagnosed that the fuel pump has failed. It pumps but no pressure. Hummmm, not too bad for a 89 EA82 EFI pump.
Will have to get a vl/vn in or maybe even a Walbro:)
Or anyone know of any better pumps, external ones??

Could use a bosch 070 or similar...I use one from here,
http://www.turbogemini.com/070%20EFI%20Pump.htm
Are you sure it isnt your FPR Stuck? Seems very odd that the pump would just stop.
It is funny though as I ended up stuck on the side of the freeway with a fuel pump fault on Sunday .
Regards
Doug

This could be true, but if Paul is in on the diagnosis I'm sure he's got it nailed. If not I'd be checking in to this - over pressurisation can give problems.Subydoug wrote:Are you sure it isnt your FPR Stuck? Seems very odd that the pump would just stop.
This Walbro seems to be a good deal, it surprises me as to how much these things cost. But then again I'm sure there are loads of them sold so prices are lower... Maybe.
Even then, VL turbo pumps on ebay aren't alot these days either! I really should pull my finger out and get one as a spare for those touring trips at those prices!
Cheers

I would say the 89 "L" series fuel pump has given up due to old age
Bennie the ad says it is an in tank walbro not much good for an external application

My thoughs are that if the FPR is bypassing too much fuel you wont see any pressure after it at all......You could try sticking your ear up to the filler cap of your gas tank and listening for fuel re entering the tank for a quick check, or is the fuel return below the fuel line on that model?
Im sure youl figure it out

If the Fuel Pressure Regulator was stuck open then Guyph would have full fuel flow back to the tank.Subydoug wrote:My thoughs are that if the FPR is bypassing too much fuel you wont see any pressure after it at all......You could try sticking your ear up to the filler cap of your gas tank and listening for fuel re entering the tank for a quick check, or is the fuel return below the fuel line on that model?
When Guyph called me, he was stuck at work with very little tools to diagnose what the problem was, so I asked him to remove the return line off the engine and turn the key over.. the fuel trickled out of it.. not a full flow of an open FPR.
Just buy one of these Guyph...

Thanks Bennie.. I'm pretty sure the pump has fail to pressure up the system, but it is hard to diagnose over the phone.El_Freddo wrote:This could be true, but if Paul is in on the diagnosis I'm sure he's got it nailed. If not I'd be checking in to this - over pressurisation can give problems.

I have been told by a few people now, to buy the VN External pump, as they are cheaper than the VL ones and work better.. go figure??
There are lots of different models to the VL/VN external pumps but if people read this and need a pump for high performance, please use the Bosch 044 model.

And the rest Guyph
Doug, your car would have a different type of pump, so wouldn't compare against Guyph's. If you look at going EFI than you'll need to change it.
