by help he meant boss me around. haha seriously though he just put a plastic bag over his foot and slid it into his boot (lesson learned perhaps?) and carried on as normal.

Honestly it doesn't look too bad but I'm not a fan of that bit that hangs down in the middle.

The nuts :)

the file below is for the TRANSMISSION AND DIFFERENTIAL SECTION for the 1998 outback

http://jdmfsm.info/Auto/Japan/Subaru/Le ... ECTION.pdf

page 191 tells you which diff you have, page 199 will give you an insight into how it comes out, and page 209 is the start of the procedure.

Hummmm, What do you guys think?? does this mean the engine may have slightly over heated???? lol

Image

Image

Well The plan is to wack a set of head gaskets on the engine and see if it runs again:) Paul seems to think it will be fine and the trip from Joondalup to my place the engine ran better than expected and only stopped at the last minute!!

Also The previous idiot had thread lock the crank pulley and ohh god Paul battled to get that thing out...

NOTE: anyone got rear ej22 timing covers and a gen2 cam angle sensor locally?
Thx

Yep.. you need to bring some CCs.. I lost a lot of fluid trying to take that pulley off

Umm... There's something wrong here!

I've seen that cam cover melt before - on my EA82 that originally came in Ruby Scoo. That engine was a throw away for two reasons - 1) it was an EA82 and 2) cylinder #3 or 4 had a crack down the bore that you could catch your finger on. And this thing drove ok - felt like it really needed a tune up.

I would believe that the EJ is much better at "recovery" after being punished like this. But I've not had a direct experience with doing what you're about to do Guyph, I'll be interested in the outcome and hope it all turns out for the better.

If not I'm sure you won't have an issue rustling up another good EJ22

Cheers

Yes i know, I also wasn't to keen to put that engine back in the car. yes the plastic covers are melted but did you notice the oil seal??? I seen melted plastic covers before but never melted oil seals.

You know it's been about 5 years now that i joined and have been playing with subaru's ever since with you guys help. One MAJOR thing i finally learnt after all those years, When Paul shake's his head and says NO don't do it or no it can't be done, DON'T bother, no point trying.
And when Paul says yes it will work or yes it can be done, It always the case!!!...

So yeah, Paul said that he thinks the engine will run again, I think i'll listen:)

LOL

Just thinking Guy.. maybe the EJ20 single and double OHC might use the same cam sensor??

I like how Guy says the previous idiot - is he suggesting he is the current idiot ? :D

Ah, the bloody English language :D I love it when speakers of English as second language tell me they are "having it off tomorrow" Is that a double entendre? ( pinching a French word I can't spell  )
I was thinking have only seen thse drooping belt cover backs on cooked EA82's and they must have been bloody hot for quite a while! Those seals did not melt did they Guy ? Just looks like leaking oil turned to grease from your pics
