Sorry there's been a bit of a hiatus on the project ...

I haven't got round to doing much on Bantum due to several factors, will update this when I get round to it ... :(
( I'll also have to go back over old posts to update missing images etc . )

Did manage to pick a few items but :

Replacement windscreen : ( rubber is shot though )

Image

and trims :

& cleaned up the front grill :

Repaired & painted the endcaps :

Haven't got round to doing much else ...

Gear Boxed ...

Made a box :

Image

And stashed a few things in it ... :p
( As it will be sitting a while before much happens to it )

Also picked some old wheels to move it around the shed :

Image

Plan is to referb the performance wheels later ... :)

Sidestep Install ...

Before Cronovirus struck, I was in the process of sourcing some bits for the Sidesteps :

Hardware :

Image

Cleaned up some of the mounting holes :

Image

And proceeded to locate them :

Image

Drilled & bolted on the back :

Image

Test fitted the front :

Image

Didn't have to drill any holes, but the splash guard needs to be repaired / replaced, so made a template :

Image

And test fitted it :

Image

Then marked it out on some signage sheet I found :

Image

& Cut out with jig saw :

Image

That was far as I got when things shut down ... :/
( was not able to travel to site where ute is located )

Hope to pick up where I left it - when things go back to 'normal' ...

Looking good Bantum!

The first image in your post about the grille restoration isn’t working for me :(

I love those side skirts. Might have to one day look into what I can modify to fit my brumby...

Sorry to hear you can’t access your brumby with the current restrictions. That would be mega frustrating!

Keep up the good work!

Cheers

Re-posted image for you Bennie ( will see if it holds )

Major hold up with fitting side skirts - Think I might have to 'deconstruct' the sub frame to strengthen it for the front mount ... :|

Image

Still looking for a new place to move to ...

Ciao, Bantum ...

That grille looks mint.

And going back a long time now - those replacement doors were a real score, correct colour (enough to just do an external spray to colour match) and they appear to have power windows. Did you pull these from a coupe??

All the best with finding a new place. It can be very frustrating!

Yep the grill turned out ok ... ( still need to do the rest of it but )
The doors do come from a coupe, so will have swap out the glass when I get round to it ... ;)

Not looking forward to tackling this next problem though - will have to strip it down, clean up & fix the leaks ...

Bit of a nightmare with all the plumbing ...

That hitachi looks pretty clean for its age. Mine starts and runs, get me to work etc. not great fuel economy probably due to the constant work on the gearstick and a worn carby. On the open road after several minutes at 100km/h you can hear the engine slightly pinging. Put the foot in a little more and it disappears - unless going up a hill where you’re in that throttle area for a short period of time.

I’d like to resolve this but it’s looking easier to fit an EJ than to strip the carby down.

Other thought is oil vapour passing through the PCV valve at cruise.

My advice for you: take loads of pics as you strip away the layers of your carb so you know where everything goes.

Yes I have already taken loads of images, another trick is to label all the hose connections - Holding of doing this until I have some where decent to work on it ... :/

Update : Found another place to work on it so will be able to continue with project ... :)

After closer inspection of the donor doors, have found they had too much rust in them ... ( as did the original ) ... :/

Image

So have sourced some new ones ... ( thanks to Daniel Elcoate )

& have some spares floating around that I'll need to get rid of :

Any takers ?

^ I got caught out with that too.

Same for the L series rear door glass between sedan and wagon. This probably goes for the MY sedan/wagon and the Liberty too.

Did your coupe doors come with factory electric windows?

Cheers

Powered up ...

Yep, plan is to complete the powered window install with all parts I have collected to make it work.

Image

Image

Think I've got all the bits I need - just need to strip out the interior to install it now ... :/

I’m at the same point with mine too Bantum. The touring wagon console went in a while ago. Looks good and is very comfy for the left arm to rest on.

Now to sort out the actuators etc among everything else I need to do...
