CNC Bits & Bobs ...
Well I've been meaning to update my 'things to do' list & to that end have begun working on making my own portable CNC / Milling machine ...
The intent is to be able to make parts that can't be readily 3D printed ( metal / carbon fibre comes to mind ) + its something for me to do in my spare time. Because I'm on a pension I can't afford to buy a new one ( your'e looking at the better end of $2000 for something decent ), so next best option is to make it myself ...
Recon it will end up being about 1/10 th the cost of getting one bought directly from store ...
Will add more progress shots as they come ...
Cheers, Bantum ...

Parts ...
Having drawn a up a basic plan based on what I already had available ( left over bits from 3D Printer ) Have started to organise / collect parts :
3D printed bits on the go plus some laser cutting ...
Order a new motor & frame :
Few more things to get when I can ... ( power supply on order )
Ciao, Bantum ...

Custom Work ...
Well I couldn't go on without doing some customising :
Got a LED ring to add to the Motor ( just happens to be the right dia - 52mm ) ...
Also needed to devise way to incorporate a dust extract :
Combine the lot to get :
Testing :
Will have to get a vacuum cleaner to test the extractor ...

Re: CNC Bits & Bobs ...
That’s awesome Bantum!
I’m guessing it will only work in one plane or will the milling tool be able to move into any angle to do 3D shapes?
I love the way you make these things all come together. What programming will be required to run this?
Cheers
Bennie

Re: CNC Bits & Bobs ...
Thanks Bennie,
Yep it will only do 3 axis - X Y & Z for now. However I'm looking to add a 4th axis so I can do turning objects ...
Already got some of it - just need to order a 100mm chuck & stop ...
Planning to use GRBL for the operating system, with V-carve for the path generator.
The 3D printer bits are temporary to get it all set up, until I can upgrade to a dedicated CNC one.

Man I’d love to be playing with this stuff to understand it but with my family, trying to play with cars and do my job I’m all out as it is!
