Off-road tyres for Brumby - Any Reports on good ones?
Afternoon,
Thinking of upgrading tyres on Brumby 14" rims to something more aggressive on the dirt. Considering desert rats, wondering what they are like on dirt and the tar in terms of noise, vibration and steering (no power assist). Brumby used in city during the week and dirt only on weekends.
Are there other options? - don't want cheap but don't want to pay top dollar either.

The SPEEDY 'Desert Rat' 14" RIM is virtually the ONLY option you have for aftermarket rims (other than fitting older Peugeot 15" rims)...there are some other options but are as rare as rockinghorse sh1t. The only difference you will notice performance wise is the slightly more aggresive offset the Speedy's rim has. Which most of us dont mind. Myself, I liked it coz it made the car ever so slightly better handling in ruts etc offroad as well as on bitumen, they seemed to 'pull' the steering slightly straighter than the original rims did. Felt more sure footed. My pics below have the Speedy 14" rims...
There were also good for giving a sube a slightly more aggresive stance with rims sitting about 1/2" further out than usual. Just enough for the cops not to get too upset over too.
TYRE wise, you wont have a huge selection to chose from but they are out there. The 'SUPER TRIPPER' offoroad tyre was popular with some, but not sure if they are still available, can someone verify this....in most cases 14" offroad tyres are not very common. From 15" onwards your choices get better...
If you are super keen to increase your rim/tyre choices, you can either convert your HUBS to 6-stud or install the 'Crossbred' conversion kit which will give your car the same stud patturn as the Forester/Lib/Outback & disc brakes. There are heaps of threads in this forum about both of em....

As mentioned, the Speedy wheel (and its variants) are a good option. You can get Scorpion Rims - but they are not the cheapest beasts at $185 a pop.

Is your Brumby lifted? This might limit your tyre options. I have an unlifted L Series - and its about to get some Maxxis MA-P1 tyres in 195/60/R14 size.

Thats right....geez, forgot all about the ol Scorpions....forgive me 'Scorpian Subaru Parts' hehe. The Scorpions are a correct offset, if that concerns you. These tyres are very good for off road wet and dry they cost around $110 fitted.

Was not thinking of toying around with rims at this point.
Brumby is not lifted (yet). Looking to do that later, so assume std clearances.

Not sure if you have 13" or 14" wheels at this point. If you are sticking to 13" wheels - these tyres don't look too bad

You could be limited with choices with a standard height if you have 14" wheels now. Thats why I eventually settled at getting the somewhat "sedate" Maxxis tyre I mentioned.

It may sound stupid but ask about snow tires I had a set when I was running the standard brakes and rims on my brumby but the snowy hydro used to run these through the mud and everything on their brumbys plus they come in all sorts of sizes! The worst I've seen was some irrigator tyres on a brumby mind you they were only on the back so id say clearance issues on the front(They look like minture tractor tyres) these wouldnt be so great around town though plus the cops would love you!

if its for 13" rims definatly look at toyo 720f 185/75/13 only about an inch larger than standard
and im sure thay make another tyre but it might be to fit 14s
