Help with my 1993 impreza hatch

Post by Debdeal » Thu Apr 23, 2009 7:40 pm

Hi, I have just purchased a low k 93 hatch but i know nothing about subbies. This car is stolen recovered and has a grind in the steering wheel???
Called wreakers but they are unsure what year models will suit for the steerig colum.
Can anyone help me with any info.
Car is a 3/93 hatchback personal import.

Being a import.. does it have a standard or airbag wheel? and does it have cruise control? If it's a standard wheel, then any thing from the GC Impreza range will fit. Also the BC/BF Liberty range will fit. Some others will fit but I'd stick with these ones as there is lots out there. The RS Liberty or the early WRX have nice steering wheels :)

You'd want to confirm for sure there is something wrong with the actual steering column before forking out for replacement parts....Could be something to do with the steering rack for instance.

No airbag, no cruise control.
I will get it towed home next week from caryard.
I hope that when it was stolen that is is just the way they broke the steering lock that has made it grind.
Thanks for the info, i'm sure i will have plenty more questions in the future as i have never owned a subbie before this will be my first.

Find yourself someone who imports Subi front cuts from Japland,
The parts they have will be cheaper than a wrecker.

Not quite right sorry.
The steering column between pre 96 and 97 - 00 is different.
The early ones have a larger diametre. But yeah any from the Impreza range from 93 - 96 will fit.

Oh... ok that's strange then cause I have my 98 22B steering wheel (late model steering column) on my RS Turbo and I was only going on this assumption?

The wheels are interchangeable, same size splines etc. It is the outer casing on the column that is different. Also the mounts for the indicator and wiper stalks. When I converted my 96 Impreza to 98 spec I used the 96 column, cut of the bracket that holds the indicators and welded on one from a 98. Come to think of it the hole for the steering lock under the ignition barrel is also different. Die grinder is my friend... :D
