OK , seen rsrlegacy reckons EA82 turbo fits with minor mods
any info to be shared between the models? any tips or advice welcome
I did have some offer a long time ago a larger diameter exhaust off some race EA82T but would require spacing up my engine mounts to clear. Given the five speeds shoved in that might not be a good idea.
pipe specs knowlege appreciated too , ta

Jono, welcome to the addiction
If you are not concerned with legalities and really want that sweet turbo music to go, the simplest option is to get an EA82T and matching 5 speed.
Only drama is you have to 'massage' out the chassis rails about a half inch ? to make the heads fit. ell, the first real car work I did was this exact swap into a Brumby. True I had a fair bit of hand holding from Steve, (cheers
) but I got there in the end.
If you run an intercooler you can run up around 15 PSI all day. Your problem then becomes getting the power down to the ground. For that you need to track down an EA AWD gearbox.
Just out of interest, in 14" 70's I was running about 4 PSI at 170 kph continuous up through the NT with no engine hassles. I did manage to rub the outside shoulders off the tyres after 500 odd k's so I guess there was a bit of flex in the front suspension somewhere. Heinous fuel consumption though, around 20 l/100k's on gas.
And it takes an AWFUL long time to slow down again....
There are more elegant / time consuming / expensive and Legal ways to get the same and better HP if you are interested.

I reckon your LPG EA81 turbo sounds like a swell idea!! Really tops.
You can use the EA82 turbo exhaust manifold and turbo - in fact it should be perfect! You will need to mod the engine crossmember though.

Monster Subaru sold to a good home!! Still a Subaru owner. Will try stay in the Ausubaru loop. Sorry

Hmm, sounds interesting jono, you will however have to modify the crossmember on the right side to allow clearance but its not to hard, the front of the crossmember has to come down about 3/4" on the right side or from near the engine mount to nearly the upward bend that connects it to the body, cut, shape and mig weld it, (arc is too savage), l patched mine from the inside after doing this, had to keep the engineer happy.
You can use the 82 turbo exhaust manifold and the turbo, it all just bolts on, the only difference between an 81 & 82 is on the dump pipe side, different stud pattern, but you mentioned making your own so this should be no problem.

Don't mention it Jono, my pleasure, by the way, don't know if l should mention this but here goes, l do have a spare engine, ( EA-81T ), it's mostly complete and is in need of a complete rebuild but heads look fine and the fuel injection system complete so if you get stuck but still want to turbo your car l will make it available to you if you want it.

Any pics? Like to see how the equal length header pipe fits for room. I want to do this to my ea82T.sammynb wrote:The replacements are a TW equal length header pipe and a gt28!

I don't have any pics at the moment but I will take a couple sometime in the next week or so so you can see. Obviously it becomes tighter in there but it's not to bad.subanator wrote:Any pics? Just don't be wanting to get to the banjo bolt for the turbo oil feed on the crankcase as it's a header pipe off repair.
Stainless and delivered from Canada for $900.
Jono, I didn't get your pm. Try again.
Thanks sammynb for the links. Having read all that, I think for me just to redirect the RHS for better flow would be suffice and a lot less hassle.
I am wondering if to cut up stock EJ20T front pipe would sufficient to adapt just for the bends etc? Can anyone shed some light on this as I am not familar with EJ's?
