EOI - RX leone, setup for EJ20turbo

Post by AndrewT » Wed Jul 08, 2009 6:38 pm

WA guys this is just an EOI
Thinking of getting rid of the RX, time to upgrade to something abit later model for daily.
Likely going to sell it MINUS ENGINE AND DRIVELINE.

I bought this car unlicenced with no engine in it. Decided to build it into a daily for me to use for work so I bought a frontcut and built it up. Been using it every day since March 2008 when it was registered.

Heres roughly what you'd get and some random facts;

- 1986 RX Turbo sedan (usual RX stuff - thicker radius rods, rear swaybar, rear discs)
- Complete RX checkered interior (except seatbelts are from a normal L series cause the checkered ones were ripped and wouldn't have passed pits).
- Registered to December 2009. It passed the pits back in ~March 2008 in it's current form (only added the sports steering wheel since then). Was running EJ20turbo with 5spd AWD gearbox. Note it is not "engineered" but it had absolutely NO problem passing the pits, it passed first go.
- No electric mirrors or windows in this model, but it does have central locking.
- This model has no aircon, however I can provide all neccessary parts in a box (condensor, radiator, pipes etc) which I removed from an L series WITH aircon. You'd just need to bolt it all in and get the gas fittings custom fitted to your EJ compressor, and wire it to the ECU.
- At the time of building I had a brand new remote immobiliser installed - car comes with two remotes and two ignition keys.
- Custom dual core radiator with brass tanks and inlet/outlet pipes all to suit EJ20turbo and two 12" Davies Craig fans. This was all brand new when I built the car and costed me 500 bux for the radiator and the fans were about 140 each I think. Fans are propperly ECU controlled. This setup keeps the EJ absolutely perfectly cool even on the hottest days.
- Custom gearbox crossmember to suit turbo AWD gearbox (I did this, wasn't too hard, has worked great over the last year or so).
- Custom single-piece tailshaft to suit AWD gearbox. I provided the rear uni joint to a driveshaft place and the rest is brand new. Still under warranty and will provide receipt.
- 2.25" exhaust. Flange at the front end bolts directly onto EJ20turbo dump pipe. It's just a big long pipe that goes straight into a high flow rear muffler. I got it made brand new at the time of building the car (except for the rear muffler, dunno how old it is but works great). Sounds great and is absolutely fine for EJ20turbo. If you want to run high horsepower stuff you'd want to go 2.5 or 3".
- EJ shifter linkage custom shortened to suit the L series. This is actually a proper STI short-shifter too.
- Liberty/Legacy RS EJ20 wiring loom and ECU still installed in the car. This was very neatly cut down by Subarino and works perfect. You could even plug a PowerFC in if you want. All warning lights, tacho etc work.
- Comes with RS hydraulic clutch master cylinder and clutch pedal modified to suit. Just plug it straight into your gearbox slave cylinder. This setup has worked flawlessly since I did it with daily use.
- Liberty RS Accellerator cable custom fitted.
- Engine stayrod modified to suit EJ20turbo motor.
- 14" wheels recently powdercoated. Reasonably expensive tyres which are less than 6 months old (the rears have a few slices out of the edge tho from hitting the guards when I had crap rear suspension and people in the back - still okay tho).
- Also will include the original set of 4 RX 13" alloy mags with nearly brand new tyres on them.
- Comes with original 13" space saver spare.
- Rear suspension is nearly brand new - Kings Springs and KYB shocks.
- It's an RX so it has the rear disc brake setup
- Front disc rotors were bought brand new when I built the car, they are wanky RDA slotted ones.
- The brake master cylinder is a Liberty 1" unit.
- This RX originally had no power steering but I put power steering in, the rack works well and has good tie-rods.
- I put new balljoints in when building it.
- Front driveshafts were brand new (apparently bought just before I got the car).
- Has sedan towbar
- The boot lid has a few small dings and the RX rubber spoiler fell off long ago, will include a mint replacement boot lid I bought for it but never fitted yet, you'd have to paint it white because it's blue.
- Front end has had a later model colour coded white bumper fitted, and the later model grill cause I think they look better. Don't have the old ones anymore.
- Still running the original Leone EFI fuel pump but this is fine for stock-ish EJ20turbo. Anything high horsepower you'd need to put a Bosche of some sort in.
- Has Boss kit and a sports steering wheel.
- No stereo.
- Interior centre console has been replaced with one from a 2wd model (so it doesn't have the gaping hole where the old dual range lever used to go).
- The battery is only a few months old.

The body isn't the best but still perfectly servicable. The paint is abit crap in some places and there is rust around the windscreen. The boot has some "reverse dents" in the sides from people chucking things in the boot. It's missing abit of trim from the small rear window on one side. All in all it's fine really.

I will be keeping the motor, gearbox and rear diff.
This car is fully setup for EJ20turbo and has been driven daily in this configuration for over a year and about 50,000kms and been absolutely bulletproof and reliable. You'd just need to put the package of your choice in and away you go. Solong as it works with a LibertyRS loom you are set.

I documented a fair bit of stuff when I was building it here - showthread.php?t=4684
Plenty of pics in there.

Here's one from when I first put the powdercoated wheels on;

Looking for $2000. Pretty firm on this cause all the work is already done and theres alot of good stuff included.

Not looking to part it out except for the fact im keeping the engine, gearbox and diff.

Again - just EOI. She's still 100% complete driving and being used daily at the moment.

You know I would very much love that B4, however even if you let it go below market value (which I'm betting you won't!), it's out of my range unless I finance. Decided I can't justify the masses of interest I'd incur with that.

Guys the RX is forsale. Still fully registered but rego is due, don't really wanna pay it.
Will be keeping a few more things now too - exhaust, wiring loom, radiator.

PM me to organise to come take it away. Mostly complete but basically no engine/driveline/wiring.
I'll prolly take like 700bucks.

Still has full exterior, full interior, the powdercoated 14's, slotted front discs, turbo engine crossmember, rear discs with swaybar, etc. so should be worth it.
