G'day, looking to update the old laser and thinking of something along the lines of a Liberty sedan or Impreza hatch in the range of ?1994-2000. (up to ?$10000.00) for the Missus. Will be mainly a runaround car (no kids), but with the occasional trip to melb. (2 hrs away). Interested in pros and cons for both vehicles and comparisons in the engines. ?2.0, 2.2, 2.5L, economy, inherent probs (if any!!) etc etc. Thanks, Newsoob

sounds good, i'm also looking for 3rd Gen RX 2.5 Liberty sedan for my missus as well.
I'm all new to 3rd gen, but had 2 gen 2liberty (gen 2 is from 94 to 98 and gen 3 is from 98 to 02)
Based on my experience with EJ22, They're most reliable engines, haven't had any problems in both liberty i had this current liberty i have is nearly 300,000kms and will last after 400,000 maybe more. I do oil changes every 5000kms.. If you look after them really well, the subaru will look after you.
Get your missus to test drive an impreza and liberty and see what she likes best. You can find 2002 model gen3 liberty for under 10 grand. The best thing is check service history and abuse, it pays you well if its well serviced.
