MYSTERY: Do you know what this bit is!!

Post by geordie_kuz » Wed Sep 23, 2009 6:35 pm

Yo,

Was cleaning n checking my pcv system and i broke a vacuum hose off a funny little plastic bit. My problem is I don't know the name of the component I have broken, so I don't know if it's serious (undrivable) and what to ask for at Bursons or a wreckers...

I think it might be a EGR solenoid valve It says Hitashi AESU128- on the side

It has power going to it
It has vacuum going to it and out of it

Due to my ignorance here are some pics. I started with the camera away from the car and got closer so you can zero in on the part im talking about. The arrow shows where i broke the pipe off...

Help would be greatly appreciated!!! my service manual is silent on what it is.

Gk

Looks to be either the purge solenoid, or the ERG solenoid.

Follow the lines, one will join to the intake manifold, the other will either go to the EGR solenoid, or the little black disc on the black plastic cylinder behind the drivers side headlight.

I wouldnt worry too much about it, your car will be quite drivable

I only looked at ya last pic. Looks like it is in same location as EGR solenoid, wires blue/black trace and blue? or sumptin' like that? The buggers always seem to be broken, or you brake it yourself and or don't work anymore anyway. They are interchangeable between the mpfi and carby models as far as I have done. One air line goes to underside of airfilter box? the other t the egr valve? it is more a vacuum bleed off for the egr than straight supply. Get one that works and hook it up and maybe get a little better fuel consumption. I achieved 500ml per 100km improvement on getting mine working.

Thanks for all the help, i will trace the pipes and then grab a replacement from the wreckers. Re plugging up all the non essential vacuum hoses: Had an 82 4k corolla once with all the pollution gear removed - went really well for an old corolla - no hesitation right through the rev range.

Im looking forward to the simplicity of replacing the boxer with an all electric drivetrain... anyone tracking the progress of Zenn and EESTOR??? Would have to record the engine note onto cd first though so as not to hear all the rattles...

Cheers
Geordie

and work out what you are going to use instead of a heater core - thermals?
