http://good-times.webshots.com/album/566462704RYcojJ

Im going to continue to look about to where it is meant to go... surely it is meant to go to the manifold somewhere... meaning i would have a vacume leak where it is meant to go... still searching though.

If its for the USDM 99-02 Forester, it only covers the EJ25 engine.

Might have to look at the exploded manifold diagram of a WRX fsm to determine what it is

You would think so but this is Subaru we are talking about here, they change things around all the time.

Yeah Dave, if it's the Purge solenoid then you will only have a vacuum leak at idle and while coasting in drive. One hose should go to the plenum chamber and the other to your carbon canister. I'll have a look on Wednesday if you have no luck with before then.

Well it looks like tomorrow is the day that Paul (RSR 555) hopefully can turn my frown upside down. Hopefully we can find the problem... i swear it is worse than before i started trying to find the problem.

I cleaned the MAF and checked most of the spark plugs. Plugs looked fine and i can't see how they could have made things worse. Im thinking the MAF is a real possibility though

Dave.

Have you checked out your compression? Thought it might be something to tick off the list. That might tell you something about the physical health of the block at least.

Cheers

I'm all ready when you finish Dave :)

btw.. are you saying that the car is running worse since you cleaned the MAF sensor? I hope it's still working :(

yes worse... but not spitting a code so it must be working.

No not checked compression.. do u have any idea how hard it would be to check compression. It's hard enough to get the spark plugs out as it is.

I would assume compression problems would be evident by burning oil or some other indications. Oddly even with the motor running not right im still not getting anything out of the normal coming from the exhaust.

Work has told me i can leave work at 1 tomorrow Paul. I will SMS u as soon as i get off and u can head up.

No probs Dave, we'll check over all the ECU system with the scanner. I have a compression gauge but will need to go pick it up in the morning from the workshop. I do have to show someone my friends RS Turbo wagon that I'm selling in South Perth at 2:30pm then I'll be free (sorry guy just called and it's the only time he can view it) and can stay late if needed :)

After tonight we have found out a few things.

It's not the actual motor itself... compression is good.
It's not the Cat... we mashed out the insides.
All engine sensors seam fine
I have very bad auto trans fluid... and possible busted gear box. I will replace the fluid and hope for the best.
I have a nasty oil leak in the engine on one side.

and I have a flat spot in the throttle off idle.. possibly injectors but still not sure... could be a tooth off on the timing maybe... suggestions? If it had a carby it would need a rebuild.

arrrrrrgh true to mechanics nature if you wern't there then you have to wait for the full story (or like most customers not get it at all :) ) (oucH!!!!!)

so what was it?

and trust me if you do a service on the trans and get that band adjusted it will run way better

So.....please don't make us wait eight hours to find out, or is it so embarassing that you can't just yet?

Ohh sorry... i did post that rather late at night... i thought i was more clear.

None of the problems are fixed but it does appear i have more than one problem.

Will need to investigate the timing belt next to make sure im not a tooth out anywhere and get the injectors serviced. And do the stuff to the gear box.

Not happy.

yeah.. was very late last night to post and still tired now :| it's not embarrassing nor is it a secret but like Dave said we have eliminated all the usual things and still investigating other things. The auto trans fluid is really burnt and almost water like in viscosity so a change and cleanout of the pan and a new filter should fix the auto issue. There is the issue of the 'flat spot' issue with the engine which we feel may be fixed with a injector service (Dave told me a story that may support this problem) I didn't take up my fuel pressure gauge but I feel the pump is working fine. The other thing I feel that may be the timing belt has been fitted incorrectly and after what Dave has mentioned about the dealership regarding the 'Major' service I'm not ruling this out.

Has anyone had a quad cam EJ that has had the timing belt fitted incorrectly? either advanced or retarded? and if so were you getting a 'flat spot' symtom?

Ok Dave.. I've been having a chat with Toonga and another good friend who ha been a Subaru Mechanic for over 25 years and I feel that we might start having a look at your TGV (Tumbler Generator Valve) assy on your intake manifold. We feel that yours is having the same symtoms that most of these other Subies end up with when they have the TGV fault. I'd like to talk to you via phone when you are free. Cheers :)

BTW.. can you check out the TX3440 when you have a chance ;)
