Now that the weather has gone and the humidity has finally dropped, we now have a chance to get back into the brumby. The second door and the guards outer skin is to etch stage.

A few more things done. The inside of the doors , guards and tailgate have been coated with fish oil and paint. The fish oil to help stop any future rust starting and the paint to put a crust over the fish oil , to stop dust from building up in the fish oil.

We had to source out another bonnet. The original looked like it was on the ground while a triathlon went by. The new bonnet has now been stripped back and almost ready to be undercoated.

Good work Fellas (and SUBIE GIRLS) my apologies for not making it up. With my Grandfather still in ICU and a heap of other commitments I ran out of time. I will get the old man to drop up the LSD when he gets a chance. Will send some Resto-pimpcash with him. Talking to my Cousin today who is a Diesel fitter about the solution if the Diff isn't the right spline count. He said that he is fairly sure that a Specialist CV joint should be able to fabricate an outcome. Will keep in contact over the next few weeks and regularly check the forum.

Cheers

Chris

Hey Guys - Great work there! Been watching your progress all the way from the UK with great interest, your 'customer' is gonna have a Brumby to be proud of (hope he is paying you enough 'pimp cash' for your 1st class work)

I have not come across fish oil as a rust preventive - is it fish oil or is it a trade name for something??
My father has used since the 1950's a product that was made by CRODA was known as PG71/ PG72 now made by SHELL and sold as ENSIS fluid he refers to as Lanolin - which is exactly what it is with added white spirit to help it search into all the nooks and crannines - the white spirt then evaporates away leaving the pure lanolin to protect.
What it does is stop water or moisture and shuts out the air (oxygen) and heypresto without those two you dont get rust.
The lanolin nevers dries out so flexes with any movement and remains tacky so you have to choose where you want to use it.
My father originally learnt of this when he was in a Vehicle preservation unit in the Army. He has tested this extensivley over the years in our workshop and has hand tools that are 50 years old that shine like new.
The differance in use is that you apply it last of all ie on paint or directly into cavities or onto (even) otherwise untreated metal.
Dad has tested Lanolin side by side against Waxoyle I can tell you there is NO comparison.
My restored MV Brumby will be getting its Lanolin treatment shortly.
Maybe you can get this product in AUS.
If you can test it for yourself - its well worthwhile.
LANOLIN - when did you last see a rusty sheep?

Anyway keep up the excellent story and all credit to you Guys and Subiegirls!
Cheers (from Halifax UK)
Giles.

Hey Giles,

We have heard of lanolin and heard good things about it. Haven't tried it though. Might have to test it up against fish oil.
The fish oil ( aka fisholene ) sounds very similar to lanolin. Doesn't set and so on. I like the bit about , ever seen a rusty sheep. I could say the same about the fish oil. A fish lives in salt water and have you seen a rust fish. LOL.

We have come across a system called RAPTOR. This will be the first time we have used it , so it will be a test drive for us as well.

We now have the tray liner . Just waiting on the surge tank to arrive and some dollars to get the efi pump and some non rainy days so they all can be fitted. need the surge tank and the efi pump fitted before the tray liner is applied. That way the mounting bolts for them are covered by it.

Looking great lads. As always you guys set the example. It's certainly looking very nice. Cash should be with you by now. Email me so I can sort out the rest. The old man should be up soon with the diff so you can see if it can fitted. No idea when I'll be home next at this stage. Hopefully sooner rather than later. Say hi to the rest of the crew for me.

Cheers

chris

p.s. How do you think the tray liner would look if you applied it after the paint was finished and extended the liner over the paint to the outside if the sides and back to where to tarp straps hook on. There was a lot of paint rubbed off around there from the bunge straps. Do you think this stuff would work?

Personally, i would say that would look terrible when the cover was off. Just an idea, Do the adjustment to the cover . We could work out a way to put thin rubber under the straps so they don't touch the paint work.

The surge tank turned up today. The bumpy coat is now on the bottom of the ute. Next is to put more coats of undercoat over the whole ute again.
