Hypothetical - Stolen Engines Info
Hypothetical - Stolen Engines Info
If pop quiz’s were not enough I would not mind asking a hypothetical…
I know that there is not a lot of detail/content around this however something that maybe we should be aware of and/or take into consideration… Therefore the hypothetical question is as follows
“What is the worst that could happen if you have done an engine conversion on your car (which is registered, and does not require roadworthy cert every year like in NSW) and then you discover that the engine (engine number) is reported stolen”?
Note that if you have read this far this is a hypothetical question and I am in no way asking suggesting/supporting/blar blar blar that people should engage in such behaviours or anything, I am just proposing this to a motoring forum that does a lot of our own engine conversion work?
I would be interested if anyone has any experiences, information about this and/or where it could be located.
Thanks Crew - L8a...

1st off if your car has a suspect engine/number.....and you haven`t done a number change with the cops and your insurance company(which would pick it when you tried to change) all your rego and insurance is null and void.....3rd party personal injury void too, bad thing if the shiz hits the fan...but sometimes they don`t even pick that !
If you go to register a car with a stolen number, it will be impounded(if copper can be f`d of course !).....and if you can prove it wasn`t yopur wrong doing you may get the car back....or it will be returned to owner or auctioned eventually, worst case is its impounded and your charged with receiving stolen goods.
Bottom line, if you think somthing is sus, ring up revs and or the cops and inquire about said number.

Looks like all fingers are pointed at me… tis ok Matt your in the clear as far as I know, and Andrew mine was from a Jap Import place.
Not wanting to change the rego just saying what if, we can use mine as the eg. I get the engine put it in the car and do nothing with it other then drive around. Not attempting to change rego or anything. Now what IF that engine was stolen how would anyone know? Unless you get pulled over by the police they asks you to inspect.

Jaffa, a bloke I work with has a '96 Commodore V8 ute. The engine number didnt match the rego info when he was pulled over. They informed him much to his surprise it didnt really matter as it didnt come up stolen!Jaffa wrote:Now what IF that engine was stolen how would anyone know?
