Subaru Diesel being bagged again
by uninformed individuals out there on the booze. twice now have heard intoxicateds saying the Subie Diesel ain't much chop and it's not turboed. Might be time to use the viral marketing method and throw into conversations that the new Subaru Turbo Diesels are now in Australia, yeah TURBO Diesel.
Have read some pretty impressive reviews on the Subie oilers recently, making a mockery of one J Clarksons review on a telly show - maybe that was a non turbo Diesel?

Scooby Diesel - Owner/User FACTS.
Hey! Giles to the rescue.....
Ok as well as my MV/BRUMBY & a Forester - I have a 2008MY Outback Turbo intercooled DIESEL. So I hope I can shed some facts here for anyone who is puzzled, concerned or curious as to the comments raised earlier in this thread.
Firstly Jeremy Clarkson can somtimes only be described as a TO$$£R. He can somtimes be described as BRILLIANT. ie he blows hot and cold.
To him unless the car he is in drives like a ferrari then its pants....ok you get the JC picture eh? He is just a ego driven journalist.
From my own experience and understanding of the Scoob diesel my educated guess is that the car JC has driven (probably very briefly) would have been a new or nearly new one - with low miles/Kms on the clock. Reason is mine was pretty tight when first new and as such did not perform like it does now, which is simply fantastic. Infact I kept stalling it at first! - not now though!
Now with 37,000miles on it has ouldes of torque and accellerates right upto the red line turbine smooth. Fuel economy is fantastic for a AWD car the size and weight of an Outback. Average 40mpg and have got as much as 48mpg and I drive pretty hard so for a 2.0L it is excellent. Mine is a five speeder and I understand the newer car is a six speeder so all the better for the fuel.
I firmly believe that because the engine is so close to a petrol engine for smoothness and acceleration, that people who just jump in and have a quick spin in one will drive it as if its a petrol and then create for themselves a totally wrong impression of the true boxer diesel.
There is not an un-blown version offered.
Take it from me.
1. They need 6000 miles 12000kms on before they loosen up.
2. You get the best of both worlds diesel torque and petrol smooth = very quite.
3 Turbo Intercooled diesel and I understand they are variable pitch vanes in the blower.
4. This is how diesels should be built.
5. Go and buy one!
Hope this helps you all, oh and I have run mine on both BP standard and Ultimate diesel - performace is the same on either.
Cheers
Giles

Two [2] grades of Diesel? As usual, the sunburnt country gets ripped off again. Although when we used to have Super as in leaded fuel there was such thing as country and metro (not that the consumer was told) lead was 4 ppm in metro, 8ppm for country. Always did wore the more metro fuel you topped up with.
Anything else in your stable Giles? Good to hear the important thng is give it time to run in and change driving technique to suit Diesel, much like going from RWD to FWD. Some of our highway patrol guys had trouble when going from V8 RWD to Cordia Turbo FWD while waiting for the Nissan powered 3.0 litre turbo Commodore in the late 80's

Hey Giles.
Dont know if you still have your Diesel. Just curious how you have been going with yours. Have you had any issues? I have done 150000km in mine and have a pretty good run in it. My clutch went pretty early on around 87000km which I thought was a bit weak. but I was living in a hilly area at the time and towing a trailer occasionally? doing a lot of Hwy K's so it should get better then that considering I have gotten 120000km off my front break pads and i'm going in this week to get the rear done.
