Bear in mind that the 89 GL and the turboes are all fuel injected, whereas the DL is carb, and I think thats where the common thread is - if fuel injected, you will have it. If carb you wont.

I need to look at my fuel sender then, see if it has two wires or three.

I think your on to something there Steptoe, I checked my 3 L turbo models, except the digi dash ( no battery ) and a spfi all had the light as verified in my manual, recall the rx and wagon worked fine

Interesting - what year is yours guyph? My subi is an '88 model running a full '91 touring wagon wiring loom and I've had the fuel guage off the bottom of the "E" for empty ;) but no fuel light to show.

I've got the touring wagon dash and loom behind the dashboard as well. I'm sure my fuel guage sender unit is a three wire job - will have to confirm next time I'm down in the staff carpark after I've dug all the shit out of the wheel well that lives there now...

Cheers

Im 95% sure my 85 Touring wagon had one, im on my third suby since then though so my memory is a bit hazy. Was a fairly bland little orange square that didn't really grab your attention, maybe it got dropped at the same time as the adjustable suspension? In whatever supposed "upgrade" that was :(

Its a 89. If you have a good look, you can actually see it. its under the zero kinda in the middle of the flat bar.
In the middle of the red circle. A small black upright rectangle.

Yeah I've seen that before. In that pick is it lit up? as it doesn't look like it! I've had my guage that low as well and have not seen the light come on...

I think you'll find GL and RX models had fuel lights and the DLs didn't/ This may have varied throughout the model life though. I had a GL that had one, and a DL that didn't. Most won't work now because they are so old, the send dies and it's very expensive to replace. There are either two or three senders depending on the model. One is for the low fuel light and the others are for the fuel gauge itself.
