Update on my Brumby

so for the last 2 weeks (even longer but mostly last week) Frank has been idling like a chaff cutter and running pretty much the same.

I initially thought that it was either a valve or a head gasket (again !!!!)

I checked everything I could but one part escaped me because of its location on the motor it wasn't until today when I cleaned the motor and had to CRC the dizzy to get the water out that I found the problem.



the brown one is the brand new one that I found by chance at auto one

(the black one has a piece missing if you can't tell)

Im not sure how the engine was still running

but it has made a big difference to the way PJ runs

yep something so simple but because of the horizontal aspect of the dizzy overlooked until when cleaning the engine, I found the cap full of what I thought was sand and carbon

so do tell where is this company I will be amazed if it is in Australia let alone Perth

and now for an update

these arrived yesterday afternoon from America with a big thanks to T'subaru

who organised it all



the one in the middle is going to go in my brumby with this grille



which is exactly the same dimensions as my brumby grille

and as well I have another grille (still in buble wrap) which suits the older bent headlight surrounds of the 82 era MY wagon which goes with the other complete setup the other eye is for parts

now I just have to find some time to put it in the hardest part will be wiring it in

Never seen that 3rd lamp set up on any Scoob over here......mustn't have got that either !:rolleyes:

I have a very good idea where all the plugs go but of course the pin orientation on the brumby headlights switch is different to the pin set on the plug of the 3rd eye

nope it doesn't come with a higher state of wisdom but as for obtaining bargains Im pretty sure it was a big help with getting this latest aquisition

now the current exchange rate makes that $180.61 dollars AU

but in reality when I bought it the total cost was closer to 195 dollars

as opposed to a rebuilt (not new) Weber 32/36 from an Ebay rorter for over 400 dollars Im doing the happy dance

and once again a megalopolibalistic thanks to T'SUBARU who made this all possible

Giles it took me a couple of weeks to find this one every time I sent a link to T'SUBARU it was either sold or the bidding had gone crazy. I was very lucky that this one came up but there are heaps on Ebay motors so all you have to do is be patient.

as an after thought Giles how come you didn't look around England as there are heaps of Fiats and Escorts in your neck of the woods

There are some bargains to be had in America, you scored another....... Webers are weird things too. I bought one in used condition, never got to fit it myself, onsold it to a dude with Lancer who had problems with his own. The one I sold him was same - crap, throw away stuff, running rich etc. Not sure what was wrong with it to cause problems. I do know he was too tight to get either rebuilt properly.

i saw a few of these on ebay when i was in America didnt look to much into it as wouldnt fit my brumby

if you can buy an adaptor plate you can fit webers to brumbys

as for overfueling in any carby it is normally the jets being to big (mains and idle)

funnily enough in a discussion with a weber fanatic at the wreckers today we were discussing the best jets to use on a 32/36

primary main 135
secondary main between 140 and 150 (155 - 160 if you want to create clouds of black smoke)

primary Idle jet 52 -55

and secondary idle 52-55

this would also work in an ADM34 (6 cylinder ford carby) but I would use all of the smallest jet sizes mentioned on a 1.8 litre engine

and another reason any carby overfuels is old dried out gaskets that look fine but leak profusely
