Dann's 92 Subaru L Series Build

Post by Dann » Wed Apr 06, 2011 8:14 pm

Hey guys thought I might as well start my own car Build thread, ok well I bought my 1992 Subaru l series, last year march (2010), and have learnt a shit load on it so far, from little things suck as fault finding little problems to Inexperienced MUDDING expeditions that cause air filters to catch fire.
Anyway enough rambling, in the past year I have;
- Done regular services (As you should)
- replaced the heater core, involving taking the whole dash off :???:
- Put 14” rims on so a bit better than the 13’s
- Put 4 retangle spotties across the roof.
- Put a stereo in 6” spits at front and 6 by 9’s in the rear door.
- little things lyk, dash matt, neons under the front seats, steering wheel cover, carpet in the boot, LED interior light, stickers, just the little things that differentiate my car from the others :)
- replacement bull bar
- roof console for my UHF radio
- 2” exhaust from cat back
- 3” lift kit (body), thanks paul (RSR 555):-D
- replaced aircon compressor
- aliminium roof cage.

Well that’s pretty much the summary of what I’ve done to my Subie within the past year, amongst having heaps of fun playing around with it on various trips.

My future plans for the subie is to;
-Go though with the EJ22 conversion , I’m already collecting parts for it.
-Get sum good tyres,
-better roof cage,
-Renew all the bushes
-Get new suspension all round, mabey do what bennie (El_Freddo) has done with the Honda springs in the rear.
- put liberty seat in.
- install a sub
- do the HID light conversion.
- respary the bull bar
- and I’m sure there much more to cum

Well pics speak a 1000 words so here are a couple pics of the process, hope you enjoy

Great work Dann! You make me realize how much work I have to still do on my '87, if I didn't kill the engine! Keep up the great work and would love to see some of the engine bay if you have time.

Nice looking wagon Dann :) Would that be an Enduro?
Just over a year ago I scored myself a 92 Enduro but without the A/C:( sucks balls in the hot seasons!
Yours looks like a much cleaner example with so much more achieved in a similar timeframe. Nice work...

what do you mean you want to see pics of the engine bay, is this before or after the EJ22 conversion??
guyph_01 wrote:shame I missed that dwellingup trip. hopefully we will both finish with our conversions asap:D
Yeah Guy that was when I went on Aussie day with sum mates to Dwellingup beautiful place not too much 4x4ing there but i haven't really explored to much there, might have to do a Forum trip there anyone interested?? :P
And yeah hope to get the conversion done soon bout the same time.
FujiFan wrote:Nice looking wagon Dann :) Would that be an Enduro? J
Cheers fujifan :) yeah it says sportswagon on the side, my cousin had an enduro for his first car too, but as you sed they pretty much the same.

hey tony yeah it's original paint, i quiet lyk it nice blue colour:), yeah love it the previous owners had never took it offroad... til I came along
as for the EA82 motor it does leak abit of oil and the push rods are abit noisey occasionally.
Milla wrote:where's the bull bar from? btw sweet ride!
Thanks mate, i got the bull bar for a car that was for sale, I called up and offered him 80 bucks and he can have my bumper plus roo bar to still sell the car looking good and he sed yes so everyone was happy:p

Nope  .. I've look a dozen times and still can't find a muscley guy :p
Dann wrote:as for the EA82 motor it does leak abit of oil and the push rods are abit noisey occasionally.
Well that's unusual.. I thought they come out from factory with leaks :D but I know for sure that they didn't come with push rods ;) they had crappy hydralic lifters that can easily be fixed... by installing one EJ22

haha yeah no shit it's leaving oil marks all over the driveway :(. haha that the main reason why i'm doing the EJ22, i thought why stuff around with putting another EA82 in when i can put a bigger stronger EJ22 in :p

Thanks paul getting close...ish now :) can't wait

Ok well this is the liberty That is going to do the transplant in my subaru :)
It's a subaru liberty 1992 257 ***km on the body and 130 ***km on the engine not the lowest KM's but it's getter than my one. Runs great, no oil leaks, power steering (yay) aircon body is abit dinged but i'm not really using the body. it should be good though.

Finally managed to get all the wiring out, all ready for dave to cut down,
Pulled the power steering rack out today, need to get new boots and Lseries ends for it now, Image

Question - Because i'm using the liberty power steering rack I know you have to change the ends, I'm pretty shore I know the part that needs to get changed but just confirming I've taken a pic of the liberty ends, so i just need to get the l series ones lyk these or is it more??Image

Also got nice new Drive shafts now for the front cause the other ones where about to go.Image

I'm going to try and fit the liberty seats in the L tomorrow anyone got any handy tips they can pass on to me to make life easier??
Cheers,
Dann
