smashed RX MY00
Long story short i took a dirt road corner a little too fast (not hooning, accidentally), went off-road and smashing into a dirt wall. This resulted in me putting a hole in my radiator, which has pushed up against the engine, smashing all headlights, bending in the front frame a bit. At the moment it isn't clear but i'm probably looking at broken fans as well... and then there is the re-setting of my driver and passenger airbags, which so far everyone who has seen them popped has started laughing in pity.
I've taken it to a mechanic and he hasnt finished quoting everything but he thinks parts alone will be upwards of $2000, and that's not including labor and panelbeating etc.
i've just turned 18 a month ago, so i'm still on my victoria red p's, and i dont have comprehensive insurance, meaning this is all going to come out of my pocket. The alternative, however, is selling the car as it is as a repairable write off or something like that and using the money to replace it.. i just dont know how much i'd get for it. if anyone thinks they could give me an idea on anything that would be awesome, i can take pictures if anyones interested.

ok pictures.. sorry for the lateness, working flat out to try and cover cost of a new car.
I've been told that there is damage to the car's subframe, and will require to be put on a rack and stretched out to be repaired, as well as needing parts that are pretty much unobtainable by the way the mechanic put it.

to be honest unless i can fix this one i may have to say goodbye to the subaru's until i'm a few years older
. the second image is meant to be showing how the radiator and fans have smashed into the engine (but the engine still runs) and you can see the front frame & how it's been warped.
anyone interested/know how much they think i can get for it?

Well if you're paying for it yourself i wouldn't be getting part quotes from the repairer. Repairers usually quote for insurance jobs and they pay full retail for everything. Get a list of parts you need from them and a seperate quote for labor/repairs without the cost of parts. The next place to go would be the wreckers/PAP to source all the parts you need from there if possible. There were two imprezza's at centre road wreckers last time i was there (i don't know if they were the right model though). Also forums like rexnet.com.au and wrx.com.au usually have people parting out cars, you could put wanted ads for parts on there too.
It might be difficult but a second opinion/quote is always good too, especially if you can be recommended to someone who understands your financial situation with the car and isn't going to gouge you like they do the insurance companies. The first quote might even be over-inflating the price to make you go away because they don't want to do it, or if you go ahead they'll make a bit of money. I call it the "****-off" price.
If you decide not to go through with repairing the car, then what i would suggest is an ebay auction. People go on ebay for bargains and they like wrecked/broken cars. There's alot more people looking for those bargains than there is cars available, and sometimes they go for really stupid amounts of money like close to 80% of what a complete running car is worth. That way you don't need to wreck it, and you tell them they need to come and pick it up. I reckon an AWD subaru impreza with what looks like some very repairable front end damage will be a pretty popular ebay item.

If I were you I would get a list of parts from the panel beater and source yourself.
The panels ect could all be sourced second hand from a importer/ wreckers.
I would also get the panel beater to do the panel & paint work only and finish the rest yourself or by mechanic.
Nothing on a 2000 impreza is unobtainable, your panel beater simply does not know where to look or does not want to. Air bags are available second hand, try the importers for them and they can be repainted to match if they do not match your interior. You simply unplug the old ones and put in the new ones.parts that are pretty much unobtainable

On a side note... should we be worried about your log in name??
As others have said, that's a very repairable crash. It will take some time and patience and possibly some hunting around to find the repairer that will work for you and your situation... All is not lost, it just looks daunting!
Personally I wouldn't move away from subarus if you move this on, just get an older one such as a liberty - AWD is a great feature in a vehicle and is also a very safe setup in the grand scheme of things. 2wd sucks in all conditions!
Cheers

thanks guys, and haha dont be scared, its a suicide silence song name (actually that might be even more scary)
i guess the bottom line at the moment is that
a) i dont have the time to figure out repair options, as i'm in my last year of school with less then 4 months left,
b) i have no money, my budget is probably max $5000 to repair it,
and c) i have no idea what i am doing with it. one day i hope to learn how a car works and all that is required, but at the moment that isnt the reality unfortunately
i might have a look at some older libertys actually, i refuse to buy a holden, ford or mitsubishi, which are all the cheap common cars that i've seen so far.
*EDIT*
so in looking for a cheap liberty i may have found some clueless soul selling a near exact model RX to mine for $3,500...
