Most AC/ radiator setups have a gap inbetween the condenser & radiator, some have this gap sealed around the edge.
I'd check if yours does cos i can imagine with fans pushing air flow thru the condenser would be fine but then would escape through this gap before the radiator. & with fans pulling, air would be sucked in through the gap, cooling the radiator but not the condenser.

exactly...

is there any harm in just leaving it in there till you get it driving???
then if the DC fans are good enough then take it out... personally, you can never have enough air going through your rads in AUS... specially in summer...

At the moment both DC fans are connected via their own relay. Didn't connect the third one yet. Should it be in series or parallel?

that would depend on the draw current needed for the fans wouldnt it???

i would think that you could connect it to one of the other relays provided they have good wires...

As Guy currently describes it, the fans are physically mounted in series, i.e. air flows through the front fan then the back fan (give or take some leakage to account for the difference in flow rates).

They should be wired in parallel. As a rule, don't ever put electrical loads in series. Two fans off one 30 or 40A relay should be ok.

Or leave the two fans you've got now, go sand 4wd'n, monitor your temps, if they get too hot for your liking go back to the drawing board. This is what most have done.

You've had options and opinions posted to you that you seem happy with but I feel that you're after a majority rules opinion that you'll never get as everyone has done something different or hasn't done an EJ conversion.

I've had to nut out what I need - I've gone with three fans for the simple reason of not being able to fit two large fans between the EJ and the 3 core radiator. The 3 core is overkill and I'd like to ditch it in favour of more room. I'm running 2x 7 inch fans and 1z 9 inch fan. I wouldn't get the 7 inch fans again, the 9 pulls easily twice the amount of air that one of the 7's does, and I didn't realise but the 7's are thicker than the 9 inch! Go figure...

What worked for your EJ22? I think you'll find that the cooling requirements of the EJ25 are not that drastically different to the EJ22, so what ever you had there that did the job well is all that you really require.

Also make sure that you're AC condenser is not blocked up with insects/little rocks. I brought half the nullabour home in my AC condenser, it did nothing for air movement through the radiator.

So my opinion is drive, monitor, change if needed, repeat until you've got the setup you're after

Nothing but careful trial and error.

Remove that monsterous fan in the engine bay and fit 2 smaller ones (on a seperate switch system) for when you're out playing KB in the dunes.
