No it didn't pass.

Tint is too dark.
Needs paper work for the lift kit.
And a few other minor things.

Sorry Jaffa... i had to spill.

Yer THANKS DAVE :P

Arrr, the juicy details.

Basically the easiest way is BLOOOOODY state law crap, and the big ticket items that will create hassles and hurt with cash flow are as follows…

Both engine and lift have to be engineered – this should not create to many headaches as the engine is (basically) factory standard, and I have the paperwork for the lift – just need to get it WA approved now.

The tint – despite being Qld legal darkest tint it is to dark for WA. Therefore it would look like I have to have my tint (which is fine, only a few years old and life time warranty) removed and replaced with poxy light sh_t.

The Alarm – Our rig has a car alarm, rigged to the central locking /engine immobiliser and has proven to be a faultless unit/ brand for the last 10 years. NOW that we are in WA the engine immobiliser need to activate itself when the car is turned off or after 30 seconds or some crap as apposed to our which arms when you activate the alarm. Bottom line I HAVE to change it – or see if the existing 1 can be tricked and trigger itself.

Heat core – Fair call – I knew it had blown years ago and I have not fixed – although they did not know why it would not blow hot air.

Other then this its all good both front and rear bars pass (just wire up rear light) as did the bonnet scoop, have to adjust lights, make sure all power windows are working (just had dust and grit which did not allow for clear connection), oh and I had a shot steering rack bush however I was due to fit that on Saturday before the 4Wding.

Hey thats great news!

I'm very surprised the engine requires engineering approval...

My RX-7 passed the pits without any question with regards to the engine at all.
It's a 1990 turbo engine/driveline which propells the car over a quarter mile in 12 seconds, shoved into a 1978 car with NO suspension improvements and NO brake upgrades. It has also had all the emmision control hardware completely deleted, and no catalytic converter.
Come to think of it, I suppose it's probably because your rig is Aus delivered and my mazda is an import therefore exempt from ADR!

Guess this means I'm going to have to seek engineering approval for mine soon too.

On my rego renewals it has a little line that says "japanese import car, exempt from ADR". Doesn't have to comply with Australian Design Regulations for certain things, emissions etc. Does yours say that?

automatic immoblisering would be pretty simple to wire up with a time switched of the ignition,, but im not sure that would pass as you might need for it to actually be an accepted model of immobiliser

Thanks Matt... I have a well know TOP NOTCH accessories fitter on the job for me so i may just see if there is any interest in a perfectly good alram/immobiliser in the easten states were they have brains (with respect to car mods)

I ALSO have to add that I have been in touch with some people in the system and they had some interesting info as well… basically due to the lazy arses here not wanting to do any work/research about car mods they have NO F*%&^%&#%^(* IDEA about anything.

The storey goes a little like this… Tint, heater and alarm NO questions asked HAS to change. Take the car over the pits advise of new engine number and that its factory standard show lift kit paperwork and hope for the best. NOTE insider trading info - they have advised me/informed me to NOT return to Warwick Pits!?!?! And go to East Perth as its near work – their words not mine!?!?!?

IF this does not pass then I need to go through the engineering paperwork side of things and they will be on the look out for us, however there is still some crap about them not wanting to approve the lift. ABSOLUTE WORSE case (and I am sure that I will not have to do this) send the car back to Qld, compliance the lift and then bring it back to WA and then they will 99.9% have to authorise it as another state has authorise it!?!?!? Why did we move here again!?!?!? NO offence to the local crew.

Well were to start?!?!?!

Lift and Engine - Since the last inspection I have all the ARD paperwork for my lift kit and supporting paperwork for the engine upgrade (if you can call it that), including a double check that the donk is not stolen and locating the engine number for em.

Tint - I have also got supporting documentation and a piece of tint film stating that our tint is 34% and legal in Qld – What is interesting is that Tint-a-Car (here in WA) informed me that darkest legal in the state of WA = 35% - I’ll bust their sh_t up!!!

Both front and rear bars passed last time though and head lights have been adjusted. The 13” tyers have been pulled out again and bolted on (including spare). Heater core took a while to get done hence going over the due date.

The Alarm – As per usual in WA, BIG thanks to our resident Subaru parts fitter Subarino. The new alarm/immobiliser is fitted and all working apart from the siren (sorry Dave its still playing up, I have a theory so we’ll talk). While he was at it he also rewired our rear number plate light.

Heat core – went to the mechanics and I was pissed off to discover that all piping is good, even the core itself was ok just the shit plastic end tank connection got brittle and crumbled right were the hose connection is. All working now however since this work was done the parkers and rear lights are not working – not my problem so I have contacted the mechanic and sent it back to him – its there now.

Other then this its all good both front and rear bars pass as did the bonnet scoop, although I have removed it and put the standard 1 back on. My hope is that it will pass, it still has minor, and I mean minor, power steering leak (I can not do anything about other then wipe before inspection) and I have discover that the bolts holding the front chairs (1 bolt on each) are now ‘floating’ so the chairs move a little and I can not tighten however it passed the last inspection like this so well see - If they fail on this I am just going to tack weld the suckers.

IF I get it back this after noon I think that Di will be taking it over the pits tomorrow. Oh and IF it fails on the lift/engine/alarm/tint mods I have been talking to the tech centre about this and they will be on the lookout for my paperwork as this bloke has specifically requested the file should it not pass on these items. Sorry about the delay i'll let you know.

Alarm will pass fine even with the busted siren.... It works just like an imobiliser without it... i will get onto getting you another siren to replace that one..... bloody thing only works when im standing in front of it holding a new one.

Interesting comment about Warwick, my L sportswagon was bought with Tassy rego and had to go over pits for WA rego. Passed at Warwick with 14 inch wheels and 2 inch lift no questions asked, this was about three years back so maybe things have changed?

Sorry its been a drag getting the car sorted .
Warwick hasnt the best rep for inspection centers but i suppose it depends on who you get on the day .
East perth might be safer.
good luck Pete

Well here we go… She has failed again!?!?! Technicalities and the discretion of the inspector basically. Basically its has passed however… They are saying that the tint went on smoked glass not clear so its to dark – we will continue to follow this up and fair enough if its do dark – although we are talking a difference of 2%.

The engine failed as the bloke did not believe that this model came out with the engine as standard – despite another inspector informing him that it did and he wanted it to go to the tech centre in Welshpool.

They questioned the lift however passed it given we only have 50mm and the paperwork for it.

All other issues are good – sorry Dave they did not even look at/test the alarm – piss me off.

We are on the road again for 3 weeks and i am looking to get this out of the way sooner rather then later - I'll let you know.

You might find that they sore the flashing light had started automatically... leading them to belive the imobiliser was auto arming... which is what they wanted. Glad they didn;t find a beef.... will have to get a replacement siren for u real soon when life settles down a little.

Update…

Paperwork has been submitted for the engine - all should be smooth though

The tint is getting removed tomorrow – Dave I may have to get a pic as she still have the 13” on and is looking VERY sad indeed.

The new tint will go on after inspection due to smoked glass/clear glass issue and then we are off to see what we can bust on it again.

Amazing the dramas this EA82turbo has caused for you Jaffa! Oversteer has passed several EJ20G conversion L series over the pits with barely even a challenge! So much of it comes to luck of the draw with inspectors I think.
