new project.. not a subi
new project.. not a subi
i know its not a subi but in any event my dad has picked up an old tr7 with the slant 4 engine and it looks like im going to be given it and some money to fix it up... the previous owner paid 7000 for it blew the head 2 days after getting it then pulled the head off and let it sit for approx 2 years.. bore is rusted out and i think it was be a waste of time to rebuild the slant 4. body is in great condition as is the interior.. i'm trying to convince dad to let me drop an rb20 (have a friend who imports nissan parts, a r32 gtr half cut would go alright i think) into it but i think he's leaning towards a buick 6 or rover v8.. not the best looking car but he likes it and something to do.. anyone had an experiences with triumphs or the tr7?

Stick with a later bigger Rover V8,they came out as a 3.5L TR8 so info on the conversion should be readily available, I've seen a couple of TR8's race/rally and they go like a shower of shit. The Rover motor was originally Buick too.

Rover V8 is a great conversion. I have been in one years ago.Yep goes like a shower of shit. It was a relatively simple conversion . The motor bolted up to the gearbox but they had to change the input shaft on the gearbox. The only real problem were the 13 inch rims. there wasnt the higher top end due to the smaller wheel diameter and low profile tyres.

Go the HE 4 litre V8 from the mid/late 90's rangie - get a crank and rods from a 4.6 litre with a sweet cam and you'll have an awesome combination right there - this is what dad runs in his rangie on Gas - it goes very well, sounds awesome and is good on fuel tooniterida wrote:But yeah the obvious choice is a Rover V8 - get a 4.4 model from the Range Rover as Tom pointed out.
So many options though!

IMO this is the only option... cheap az bro and plenty of potential to upgrade the power output. George (old friend) runs one of these engines in his old skool celica with 2 turbos fitted and it's insane down the drags. Last I saw it was doing under the 10s. Also check out Bullet Cars. Jay Upton was building these over here in WA with his company (Sprintex) and they are crazy. I fitted one of these 1UZ in my old hilux surf (Big Surf) and everyone was amazed that you can drift a surfniterida wrote:Although a Lexus 4.0l 1UZFE would be pretty good too.
