How far away from Al's Autos are you? May pay just to call and drop in to see him. There is definately something not right.

Have you had a compression check done?

Are you sure all the vacuum and boost lines are connected?

Would a 2000 model Impreza have an air flow meter? Im pretty sure that it would have a MAP sensor.

You do alright for someone on the other side of the continent when all you've got to go by is the forum member's observation skills  Geez, anyone would think there would be something wrong with you for all the help you give out

So have all your ignition leads been replaced. I got replacement Bosch ones for my Outback from the local parts guy. I just took my old leads in, and matched them up to the ones on the rack and chose the ones that matched, cost about $12 each.

My other suspect is fuel pressure, either from a faulty regulator or pump. You will need to test it, but this may be a job for a mechanic because working with high pressure fuel can be dangerous.

The fuel pressure should be 36.3psi when you turn the ignition on, but dont start the engine. When the engine starts, the fuel pressure should drop by nearly 10psi because the manifold vacuum controls fuel pressure

Nah it wont be the cat. A blocked cat makes it feel like you are driving with the handbrake on, and there will be no exhaust burble

Check the resistance of the leads with a multimeter.. you may find they are the major issue.. very rear that the coil fails.. when this happens you lose spare to 2 cylinders, as they use a waste spark setup.
