Try penrite hpr diesel oil.
It is a mineral oil at 15w40 I believe.
It worked well in my friends diesel troop carrier.
Only took a few minutes to turn black.
Cheers Cam

My heavily modified forester seatsl series mad wrote:hay is there any other subaru seats that would just bolt in my l series maybe some sti seats ?

Seriously though, the touring wagon seats are a slight upgrade if they're not already worn out and I think the Gen1 and Gen2 seats fit in with a bit of fiddling around - but I have not gone down that path so don't have the experience to say ya or nay on it. I've only seen the end results.

I would say that it's something quite special - unless you get someone else to sort sections of the conversion out for you...l series mad wrote:is there something special u have to do in a l series to do an engine swap with a liberty or is it a quick swap ?
And Thanks Toonga for using my story on my EJ conversion thread! That's got all you need in there as I experienced it - from my naive questions to the finished product and beyond!
This is a thread I created from that experience that's basically a blow by blow of what you need to do to get an EJ into your L series (or basically an MY).
The EJ is well worth the effort - even if you get half way in with the wiring mess (cut down and when your L's apart!) and think what the bloody hell am I doing with all of this?! If you do experience this, take a deep breath and relax

Cheers

Yes you do. But personally I wouldn't bother with the EJ18...TOONGA wrote:Nope the EJ motors all have more sensors than the EA82 motor. even with the EJ18 you would still need to use the computer, harness and other bits and pieces to get it to work.
Do some research about what's involved if you need more than what we've dropped in here.
Maybe Toonga's work on his '22 with an old school carb setup could be the way to go for you... I'm not sure if he's got a concise thread about it... yet. Do a search.

no Ive not made a concise thread, too many spammers want to flood my threads, what can I say we have fun

if you go to my first post in my brumby thread all of the major build points (and some spam) are outlined

one day I will do a proper write up ... maybe.

No that's complete crap. It won't do any harm, but it probably won't do you any favours either unless you advance your ignition timing to take advantage of the increased knock resistance.

it is bad - to spread BS like that. It is bad to use any ethanol blend in a car with a metal fuel tank made before ethanol blends were thought of for the public. Bad in that ethanol sitting around for some time in a metal fuel tank has some relationship to rusting insides the metal tank. It may be OK to use it all up in short space of time
I am surprised nobody has mentioned replacing the cam belts on any secondhand car as you generally have no idea of actual service replacement on these items and that is the perfect time to do the oil pump and front crank and cam seals so you know they are good. This will often fix the noisy lifter tick of death noise.
