I cant comment on which one to get, I'll leave that to others with experience in this Image

Only that I would suggest getting a good one even if its costs a bit more. The few $$$ you might save would quickly be lost with another trip to the mechanic, not to mention all the aggro... Don't get sucked into a false economy Image

Newer soobs don't have the clip on the rear CV's... Not sure on the older ones.
I'd get a new rear CV if I were you, should only cost around $160 from a CV place.. ;)

Yep they'll have one and it should be under $200. I wouldn't bother with used ones, been there and done that before. Waste of money unless your desperate for one.

What clip?? I never had one on my rear shafts...???!?

Repco - Rip Every Poor Customer Off lol

I'm guessing genuine would cost an arm or a leg...or both!
I think Repco give a discount if you're in the RACV, make sure you ask.

Maybe also call around some CV joints as Taza said

What's the groove on the CV shaft look like - shagged out?

Hate to say it, maybe it's the diff centre where the clip lives that's the problem :(

Bennie
the groove has been machined out, so should be in good condition

i was talking to the mechanic yesty and said it is very possible the diff is the issue. he did say it is still worth trying a new CV before touching the diff.
although when the clip was replaced (by a different mechanic) he did say he couldn't see any issues inside the diff.

i really am hoping its just the CV.

Last resort would be to get earlier stubs for the outputs on the gearbox and fit rollpin cv's

been on the phone all day and my best options is to replace the whole diff as its unlikely the drive shaft is the issue, rather the gear inside the diff that holds it in there

Aah, just read your 1st post, its the '04....

I just checked Jolly's, they have 2 SF Forries, but they'll be open won't they? Your '04 has a vLSD?

Looking at their prices, the "Diff Independent Rear End Type" listed on the ad is $127 or $98 "no return".

Its a 4.44 ratio. Do what I'll be doing & have a look at the back & apparently theres a plate which gives info like ratio. I'll have a lot of cleaning to do 1st though
