As a timing light uses an inductive clamp around the lead and being that the HT lead is insulated, it's too hard to get a constant spark rate. So it's hard to make the assumption that the spark is irregular.

Perfectly. As Subaru use the coolant temp sensor until operating temp but I don't understand why you have asked this question?

Thought maybe the o2 sensor might have had a stick come up and damage it. Or dust in the connectors. Not sure how exposed it is under there. Obviously not the case if they run fine. Maybe make sure all your engine connections are clean?

It's a very good thought and yeah, can happen on some earlier ECU EFI systems.

Very good idea about the connections, as Taza is always playing in the dust and mud

I doubt it would be an issue - Subaru have very good sealing on their connectors! Unless he's been opening them in those conditions they should be fine.

You are correct Bennie, but as Taza's car has had the plugs 'connected & disconnected' a few times over the last few years, then it's worth considering.

I'm still leaning towards a skipped tooth on the belt. Here's a pic for Jonno
