MY07 2.5l Outback timing belt/chain belt?

Hi AUSubaru members

Before posting this topic i did do the search first and couldn't find what i was looking for.
Maybe i might have missed it. If so please link me and i will close this topic.

I am in the lookout for a Subaru Outback and have found one that has caught my eye.
It is a 2007 2.5l Premium model.
My question is, does the 2.5l model have a chain belt?
i did a few reading up and only could find that the H6 6cyc models had the chain

The person that had the car says that it is a chain in the car and that over 2006 models of the Outback are all chain. I didnt want to get into a debate with him on what my findings were so i left it at that.

Can someone from the community here with more knowledge on the subby's advise me what's what?

AFAIK its only the H6 engines that have a timing chain but I could be wrong...

As the H6 comes in the Outback, that might be the source of his confusion.

Anyone else know for sure?

Definitely a rubber belt in the 4 cylinder 2.5 (EJ25) in SOHC or DOHC engine.

The EZ30 (6cyl), EE20 (Diesel) and the new FA20 (4cyl) are the only engines so far in the Subaru range to come with a timing chain.

Best advice anyone can give you when buying a car is take your time, do your research & dont get rushed into anything by the salesman or yourself

I think Subaru recommend the newer belts to be changed every 150km not 100km?
