Outback remote locking
Outback remote locking
Just bought a 2000 Outback Limited, and notice no lights flash when central locking is used - is this normal? Whilst a bit strange, I assume it must be as the manual makes no mention of it.

I think only the aftermarket kits make the indicators flash when you arm/lock the doors, as this is usually a complete alarm system. With the Subaru you just get the door locking mechanism noise because these are just a locking system.
You know you are getting old when the candles on your birthday cake start to cost more than the cake itself.

I have a 98 22B, a 2001 H6 Outback, 2003 B4 sedan and my daughter has a 99 Foz and none of these flash the lights, they all have standard systems in them.
I've even serviced countless number of them and must admit I've never looked for it but I'm sure its something you'd see.
If they are supposed to flash the indicators, there will be a wire from the central locking control box to the hazard relay.. I'd be checking that this is working correctly

Listen between the passenger side vent/glove box area and press the lock button on the key. (your doors have to be shut) You should hear a 'clonk' as the doors lock and then a 'tick tock' as the relay for the blinker flash operates. Unlock it and there will be a 'clonk tick tock tick tock' because the blinkers flash twice on unlocking.

This is a good read. Some seem to say pre ~2000 ish don't do it.
It is strange that it seems very inconsistent throughout different subarus.
