Hello from Melbourne :)

Post by Faawks » Mon Oct 14, 2013 5:37 pm

Hi there, my name is Brett and I've just acquired a 1991 Liberty for free :D

Now, this car has been in the family for AGES, first it was my brothers, then my dads, and now it's mine, kinda just gets passed around.
It was actually headed for the scrap because, lets face it, it pretty much is.

The poor this is held together by very little and has had many 'backyard' jobs done to it.
That being said, I've gladly taken it to be apart of my fleet as it will be the cheapest of my cars to run, beating my 75 cortina by a small amount and running rings around my xr6 turbo by MILES!!!!
Honestly, if I'd had know just how bad they were on fuel, I'd never have bought it. :/

Anyhow, this Subaru just goes and goes and goes, it's been overheated so many times and uses so much oil. My brother never warmed it up in the mornings and always flat footed it immediately after starting it, I'm surprised the poor girl still goes.

The first 2 things I had to fix was the sunroof and the fuel smell, I pulled the sunroof switch apart and cleaned all the contacts.
Put it back together and it works great!
The fuel smell I'm hoping will be fixed by tightening the fuel lines, though that being said, I've noticed they aren't healthy, might replace them soon.

Other than that it's had it's ignition system bypassed (by me a long time ago as a favour to my brother) as the car was not starting via the key, so now it is push-button start ;)
A craigdavis thermo-fan switch was put in because the fans stopped working.
Air suspension is all gone too. :(

Future plans are mostly suspension related, need to lower it a bit and tighten it all up, I feel like I'm driving a boat!

Anyhow, hope to see you all about :)

Cheers,
Brett

G'day Brett ;-)

It sure does sound like a lot of work to do. Its amazing how much punishment they can take. Give it some TLC now & she'll love you for it

Thanks guys, I'll get some photos up soon, although she's not much to look at, really needs new paint!

Hi and Welcome Brett,

Sounds like you got her for the perfect price

So she now has push button start.. isn't that only just coming out in new cars?? at least it's keeping up with the trends. LOL

If she had air suspension, this means she is AWD.. yay.. when's the lift kit going in???

Cheers,
Paul
