CV Boot Clamps
CV Boot Clamps
I need to redo a few of the CV boot clamps so am looking at the boot clamp tools on eBay.
They all seem to be the same design, so narrowed it to this ($33shipped):

They dont seem to sell the clamps, so was wondering where to get them, pref in Oz.

I do use that tool but you don't need the crimping tool, just fold the cut tab over and hold down with the locking tabs.

The rear inner boots have just been replaced & regreased but he reused the factory clamps & now one is leaking
so all I need to do is replace the clamps.
Last night I was reading how to do the front CV boots...it really does seem like a lot of work when I just have a couple of loose clamps that are leaking a tiny bit of grease. I was hoping to simply replace the clamps...not even a 5min job for each one.
So are they the right clamps? $40 is a fair bit to outlay & I cant see I need 20 of each!

The factory clamps are the best (IMO) but if the boots have only just been replaced, then my guess is that the CV joint still had grease on the seal area and this is allowing the leak. Also happens if too much grease is in there and it wants to get out. I'd just carefully undo the clamp and then give the seal area a really good clean and make sure there is no greasey/oily stuff on both mating surfaces, then refit the old clamp. If you need new clamps use these ones... comes with tool and clamps (and it's in Aus
)

OK I'll do that but I might wait till I get the tool & clamps. I dont understand why its so important to clean the mating surfaces though...I would have thought the clamping pressure would be enough 
What do you think of using hose clamps? I like using the correct tool for the job but others have done it this way successfully

Really the 'clamping pressure' isn't that much. You're really only holding the boot to the cup to stop the grease getting out and the dirt getting in. Like any oil product, once there is oil under the seal, it will continue to come out. Rocker cover gaskets, sump gaskets, etc are prime examples of this.
