how to convert to 5 stud
Possibly stupid question - which rotors do you use ? XT6 or Liberty ? The Liberty is my guess as it has the rear e-brake (drum-in-brake setup) (they are otherwise very similar, Liberty is slightly bigger OD (10.47" vs 10.07"), and higher (2.66" vs 2.35")).

Whatever matches the brake calipers. Forrester rotors if using forrester calipers. Liberty rotors if using liberty calipers. Backing plates are all the same other than 2006 on Wrx or sti's that had brembos. Those are different for the caliper mounting point offset and 190mm handbrake drum respectively.
Xt6 had a handbrake on the front. Same as brumby so not xt6 rear rotors

That's what I thought, thanks!

I'm pretty sure the rear discs are all the same, but you will need to match the rear calipers to the front brakes that you use. The piston diameter in the Forrie calipers is bigger than the non-turbo Liberty ones as the Forrie has bigger front brakes. The brake bias will be wrong if they aren't matched.
If you use all of the parts off the one donor car you won't have a problem

On the Raybestos site (US), the Forester and Liberty non-turbo were the same p/n. The Liberty turbo were vented/larger. Yes, everything will come off the one donor (Forester). I didn't know the Forester had larger front brakes...

Correct. My kit is looking at using the larger 5x114.3 stud pattern, so I can use the STi brakes and rims but can be made to suit 5x100 if required.El_Freddo wrote:I think he's going with new ones Willy.
I wouldn't say it's the "whole point" as lots of people use their cars for different reasons. Many are keeping their running gear stock, just upgrading their look.AndrewT wrote:But using adaptors just reduces the 5stud advantage to being able to use 5x100 wheels. Pretty much the whole point of 5stud conversion is the substantial brake upgrade.

That's why I said "pretty much". It's aimed at people who want a brake upgrade, hence they named it a brake conversion kit. Stud pattern change and different wheel selection is more of a happy bi product. Bit overkill to do a full brake and hub conversion with the sole purpose of running different wheels. I'd doubt any if the few cr0ssbread kits that were sold we used just with that in mind really, maybe 1 or two? Interesting to know how many were actually made in total. Starting to think the number is really really small.
I'd be interested in your kit with that pattern for sure Paul. I'm not too happy with my wheel choices with 5x100!

How does this larger bolting pattern accommodate the STi brakes and rims? Do the STi's used a larger bolt pattern? If so I never knew this!!RSR 555 wrote:Correct. You should look into getting your kit ADR compliant if possible. But in saying that the era of that being a benefit in the sale of units has probably passed the point of being an advantage as these vehicles become less on the road (and less units being modified!).
Cheers

No idea about the censoring, some mod on here did it for god knows what reason.

Only other option is to machine down an MY drum, which at least one member in Qld has done successfully. I was lucky enough to score some XT6 hubs off USMB (there have been 4 sets come up in the past 6 months) for my conversion.
