Found a bit of reading material after the recent advent of Apple Watch :

So my query is a map directory like your 'Tom Tom' etc. classed as a VDU ? ( visual display unit ) & can that be substituted for PDA ? ( or other type of screen device )
My understanding is that these sorts of devices must now be switched off while in motion ( even when stationary but not parked ) which kind of sucks & defeats the purpose of having them. ( safety issues aside )
Your thoughts ?

I would think something like a Tom Tom wouldn't be in the same category as mobile phones and smart watches. Since many new cars now have sat nav built in (which doesn't go dark when the car is moving) it would be hard to justify picking on people looking at their Tom Toms. The middle ground is something like they have in the XV's; soon as the car starts moving all buttons and on-screen commands stop working so it's literally impossible to operate it while driving. You can still see the map, just can't change anything.
Will it ever end!?
