4eat to 5spd... what do I need?

Post by vladrulli » Thu Aug 03, 2006 8:33 am

well... I finally fried my brake band... :(

repairing the 4eat will be too costly and will take a lot of work so I've decided to convert to a 5spd manual gearbox...

what do I need for the swap?

i've got the ej20t... will I be able to keep the 4.44 front diff with an older 2wd/4wd 5spd? or should I go with a complete gearbox+diff assembly in order to make this work? can I keep the front diff if I go with a newer 5spd gearbox?

what about the flywheel? do I need a ej20t flywheel or are there other options?

what clutch options are there for me? ej20t clutch or does something else fit? or does it all depend on the gearbox I decide to go with?

about the gearbox-engine adapter... can somebody provide me with a blueprint so I could a local shop manufacture one for me? ordering one from AU is not an option because of the hight shipping cost to Iceland...

I hope you guys can help me out here... this is the only car I have at the moment and I need all the info ASAP as this is my daily driver and needs to get back on the road as soon as possible...

meanwhile I plan on drinving it in 1st and 3rd gear... 8)

Your best bet will be to fit an EJ gearbox to your EJ engine.
Have a thorough read of this showthread.php?t=980

Im not an EJ expert, but the EJ box is gonna have less Ks, more strength and a better awd system.
