In addition to my post above. The correct GLOBAL name for the car is L-series, with this nomenclature being similar to a BMW 5 series for example.

Each local market then went and gave the series its own name. Eg Leone (most markets), Loyale, GL, Sports Wagon, Touring Wagon, Coupe, etc. This is a specific car indicator, such as a BMW 540iA would be for example.

I have a parts book for the Brumby which calls those cars L-series too (remember my initial post, all Subaru cars in this line up, from the 1970's ugly ones to the Legacy are L-series), and I got an early Legacy book, which also calls them L series.

As an aside, the official name for the little sherpas/vivios/etc is M-series, the Justys are J-series and the vans is E-series.

Hope this clears it.

Is the My a series? I thought L-series does not include the Mys, and I don't think it does at the dealers subaru parts book either, but I've only ever looked at the L-series 1985-93(?) book............

Mys are an L-series. I've looked at factory books, and the following cars are effectively factory designated as L-series:

You can kinda see the family resemblance

The pre L-series car that started this line up of cars was the FF1 as pictured:

Aww, how you forget where they used to fit mirrors !!

The grey imnports wouldn't be such a big business if they still did that !
