Post by stiute » Tue Jan 16, 2007 11:34 pm

I am most of the way through my brumby conversion to 96 wrx sti running gear. Engine instalation is no worries but i was wondering how others have made their gearbox crossmember? Any ideas or even pics would be awesome! Can anyone help me?

There is no set way of doing it. Everyone ive seen is different.
They have all utilised the mounts on the chassis for an auto ea81 box crossmember. Some form of bracket mounted to the back of the gearbox and then connencted to the crossmember by a rubber mount

I used the X member for the manual MY box. Hacked and welded it so it would fit the mounting position for an automatic my gearbox (further back). Attached an engine mount from a ford escort and then bolted that to an abortion of a bracket that bolts to the rear of the box. It sounds dodgy but it s actually pretty solid.

There has got to be an easier better way of doing it but we just used what we had lying around.

If you arnt good with a welder, grinder ect find someone that is and they shoud be able to knock something up.

Sorry cant be of more help.
Put some photos up when your done, I want to see this beast so I can recognise it when im in the area.

I will definately post some pics soon. I am most of the way through fitting Gee's Crossbred Performance rear disc kit. He is a great fella who has an awfull lot of info in his head, and I cant thank him enough for his help. It is a very simple but awesome kit! Once that is fitted i am going to fit the engine and gearbox so i can fabricate the crossmember for the box. Once that is done i will refit the coilovers in the front and the front shafts, wrx hubs and front wrx brakes. It is getting very close now to completion and i am itching to drive it again! Anyone have any pics of the way they have done their gearbox crossmember?

I would take some for you but my car isnt with me and im going on holiday today for a week.

The mounts for the auto box crossmember im talking about are around 50cm further back down the car from the manuals crossmember. They are just some threaded bolt holes.
