which rims and tyres do i choose???
gday,
My lift kit is on the way and i need to buy 14 inch rims and tyures fior it. which rims should i buy? is it the scorpion ones which are sold at bob jane? what prices am i looking at for each rim and what type of tyre should i really be looking at with a lifted l series?

The Scorpions are from Scorpion Subaru in Brisbane, expect to pay $184 a rim + freight.
The 1’s from Bob Jane I believe are Dessert Rats, I have head about $90 a rim.
There is also the group buy on the board (see group buy section).
Only other options are to look for a set of Pug rims, maybe $50 per rim if you can find them second hand, or have some redrilled – although I would not advocate for the last option.
As for rubber you options are again limited if you are wanting 4WD tread patters. Try BFG’s, Wrangler TG’s, I think that Bridgestone still do a Dessert Dueller, you may also get a Kymo MT – expect to pay a pit for them though (the cheapest option is the Wrangler TG’s and I got mine last week for about $130 a tyre).
The final decisions however are yours.

Dessert duelers... Yummy.
I'd recommend any 27x8.5 off road tyre personally, but it really depends on how often you leave the tarmac. The 27's require good springs and some fender trimming though. You might want to consider some good on road tyres instead, these are also handy in the sand.

I thought the desert dueler tyres were unavailable now (subarino?? I think you said that to me once?).
I would go desert rats for the rims myself, the price point is very attractive.
ps, omg jaffa - was that a post from you talking about rims without once mentioning correct offset??!

My preferences for Rims and Tyres were based on availability... i did not want a Rim or Tyre that i would have to wait weeks or even months to get here.
Im running the Desert Rat rims from Ian Diffan (cost about $88 each) And BF Goodrich AT which are 27inch by 8.5inch Cost of these hover around the $200 each mark but shop around... im sure i only payed about $160 each.
An important question no one has asked it what size is the lift kit your getting. 27 inch tyres are likely to scrub with a 2 inch kit.... also is it going to be a primary offroader or daily driver??
Keeping this in mind there are many people running road tyres off road with minamal problems... infact the guy who i belive is much better at offroading than all of us has an MY sedan with half the horse power as most of us and running road tyres. *cough* Jonno *cough*

I'm looking into liftkits and tyres at the moment for my subaru, this was something I wanted to clear up, searched and didn't find, but this thread is related so I thought I'd ask here..An important question no one has asked it what size is the lift kit your getting. 27 inch tyres are likely to scrub with a 2 inch kit.... also is it going to be a primary offroader or daily driver??
My options for a liftkit are either 2" or 3" - I'm not overly concerned about the legalities of it, more so going the minimum lift that I need to clear 27" tyres. My question is; if I get the 3" kit, will 27's scrub? I would prefer a 2" kit, however it seems that the tyres will scrub - I don't particularly want to change springs yet, and would like to leave my front 1/4 panels intact.
I also plan on buying five of the 14x6 rims in the current group buy, and it is more than likely that they will be 49mm offset. If the group buy falls through I will more than likely grab the Desert Rats.... what would the better option be out of the two rims (difference in offset etc)
Any advice?

I did not say anything about agreeing or not agreeing… but yes 4WDing on the ol road tread is fine on a majority of tracks. Only advantage to ‘real’ 4WD tyres is really rocky conditions where the extra side wall strengths is a safety bonus and as long as you do not plan to play in the mud – well playing in it is ok attempting to remain on tracks/ go in the desired direction is a little more difficult on road tread, other wise road tread is an excellent option (given most of your driving is on tarmac).
Happy Dave.
Weirdo? Is that your official diagnosis Dr? Oh and its not weird, x-cen-tric, who’s the psyc here anyway hehe
