Brumbyrunner is stuck in Mt Isa due to flood water on his way home. He is a bit unsure as to what suspension he is going to put in there. He has got some struts he had on his RX race car with remote canisters that he is thinking about running along with a secondary shock on all corners.

This year is pretty much a drive it and see event with plans for full WRX suspension and cross member mods in stage two of the build.

I was talking to him today and he told me he has had all the guards plasma cut to suit the big tyres and that it now looks "FULSIK". He was saying that they are cut to past "where the blinker used to be".

LOL, he is gonna hate me for saying that. I should have said "proper crook" with him being a bushy and all that.

Back home now.
Had to leave the ute in Mount Isa where the huge holes that used to be the rear wheel wells will be resheeted with new steel and then we can paint it.
I pulled the 2" strut top out of the front and put a std. strut back in with no spring or bumpstop rubber. Then I cut the guard so that the 30" tyre wont foul on it at full bump. There isn't much mudguard left. Then I cut about 100mm off the end of the bullbar wings. Surprisingly the area at the rear of the front guard that usually needs trimming when installing bigger tyres didn't have to be touched. The cutting started at the side moulding.
For the rear guards, I cut 100mm out of the entire wheel arch opening. But it wasn't enough, so at ride height, I took the radius from the hub to the top of the wheel arch and extended it rearwards. This effectively cut 150mm out of the rear or the guardsand will allow up to 33" tyres if nessessary. Re-sheeting the inner guard is going to be a bitch.

Probably reduced the weight by 50kg with all that guard cutting. ;)

holy ****!

this is easily going to be the best lifted brumby ever built. It actually looks balanced not like every other brumby with big tyres thats 6" lifted and looks like its going to fall over.

It should handle unreal with the wheel base extended like that. wide, long stance, low center of gravity - kickass!!

also how do you go with rubbing when turning?

It was a long time in the planning stage getting all the decisions made beforehand so that there werent any surprises and the build would go to plan. It's too late to find out that something wont fit or wont work when you've invested 20 grand and have to scrap it and start again. I initially didn't want any body lift at all and to move the rear axleline back about 4 to 6" and obviously that would be better, but you have to draw a line somewhere if you want to get finished and not blowout your budget.

Ready to roll...? It's driveable now.
Ready to race...? Hopefully by the end of the wet so I can get it home and start dialing it in. There is so much left to do before June.

This is probably the only part of the build where I don't know what to do. I need a sheetmetal man to build the inner rear guards for me. I had a go but I'm out of my depth. Cutting them out with the plasma cutter was a lot of fun. I removed all the metal between the outer skin and the tray skin. I also cut into the tray floor for an inch or so to give enough room behind the tyre. At least I don't have a rear door to contend with.

i just realised how perfect you got your measurements on shifting the front wheels forward - factory mudflaps untouched with 30" tyres and they are in exactly the right spot!
