Any interest in (WA) BYB BBQ/4WD wkd 2007

Post by BlackMale » Mon Aug 27, 2007 12:24 pm

For those of you that do not know for the last 3 years or so we have arranged a WA BYB BBQ 4WDing trip to coincide with annual Qld BYB BBQ (ie on the same weekend as the QLD meet but in WA, so the date is not set by me).

Now I am not saying that we will arrange anything this year however if we were to arrange something I need a few questions answered. (These question have been asked in the past so I will not go into huge detail other then to say the reason I need to know this information as there is some work required to arrange this event… things like consideration of the destination, number of vehicles attending (more cars = more time) and their level of modification so then some recon of tracks can take place.

Notes –
- I am aware that this is a different arrangement to how Qld does things maybe we’ll just set a venue and/or camp next year).

- For newbies, or those of us with short memories, to help inform your decision GENERALLY this is a entire days activity/4WDing with lunch and an opportunity for individual and group pictures somewhere along the way. Everything you will require for any other 4WD trip should be brought on this trip. To give you some idea of past trips last year was in Dwellingup and the year before was in the bush out York way.

- It’s a fine line between to much and not enough info so hope this kinda covers it for now.

- We do like to attempt trip destination/place that WA group members may not have been to before however (Remember) I do not usually give the board the specific details of the trip destination.

Therefore
1) Who is interested in attending such an event?

2) Will the tracks need to stock Subaru friendly?

Therefore I am looking for 2 brief answers (1 for each question). If this is something that WA members would like to do (and we are the 1’s arranging something) then we’ll start a new threads in the WA section with specific details at a later date.

So what do you fellaz think.
Toyota 105 Series LandCruiser (that nobody on here wants to really hear about).
RX Touring Wagon - fitted out for 4WDing (currently collecting dust).
RX Project - will be road only at this stage (and currently taking way to long to finish).

1) Yep I'm interested
2) I'd say yes, stock friendly - However perhaps the second leg of the trip could be more extreme. This gives people with stocko cars or not enough confidence to either call it a day or park their cars and come along as a passenger.

There are several things to extract from the original post.

The first one is subtle however its in the wording
BlackMale wrote: Now I am not saying that we will arrange anything this year however if we were to arrange something I need a few questions answered.
The second is a direct result of the first… in that I have had very little time for board activities recently and even less time to do some reconnaissance for potential locations, which is the critical thing (I think) if we are going to try and arrange destinations that others may not have not been to before.

As for camping!?!?! Who said anything about camping
BlackMale wrote: to help inform your decision GENERALLY this is a entire days activity/4WDing with lunch… I am aware that this is a different arrangement to how Qld does things maybe we’ll just set a venue and/or camp next year
Therefore there has been LIMITED (read no) recon at this stage however I have a few things in mind. Remember we have until Dec to get something together, and I do not give out the destination anyway. If someone has the time and energy to arrange something then I am willing to just be a tag-along this year.

Its also worth noting that the last few years have also resulted in cars requiring a tow home (specifically Subarino and ourselves – sorry Suba your flat tyre does not count) so its got potential if nothing else.

WA crew looks like I am the latest member to be ruled out of trip due to unexpected work commitments. Long story short I have am flying to Melbourne. Sorry for the withdrawal from this event – I had actually committed to the Melbourne thing before the BYB BBQ date was set however only received 100% confirmation that I was going to be required in Melbourne this morning.

The way I see it there are 2 options…
1) Someone else will have to plan the days events… Have a great day and I’ll catch up with you all at some point.
2) We attempt to set another date.

My personal preference would be option 1. Reason for this is that I would not be supportive of changing the date for others as this would not be in the ‘sprit’ of having the BYB BBQ on the same day as Qld crew… if we changed the date then its just another WA trip really isn’t it.

I will continue to monitor to see what the outcome is.

i vote for no. 2 a the whole point of the BBQ if i remember is to meet n greet as many members as possible and have a big turnout. so that would mean we should get all the suba boys and girls together in one place. wont matter if its same day as QLD or not.

It pains me to say it... but Matt is right.

This is what i think... i expect not everyone to agree....
But, for this particular function we make it just what it is meant to be greet/meet/BBQ(meat).

We can all work together to choose a date/day that suits the most people. Then work together to choose a central location... perhaps a park where we can line our cars up.... have toilet facilities and BBQ facilities.

I think we should keep the cruise to an after BBQ event for thoughs that want it. As Jaf pointed out... not everyone has been able to drive home after one of our "cruises". My stupid behavour resulted in this one of the years.

Lets keep it simple... strike for maximum numbers and have a great time without requiring an RAC tow truck.

This is not to suggest that it can not be followed up by an offroad trip directly after for thoughs with a first for dirt.

^ All sounds good to me! Lets try and lock down a good date that suits everyone? Quick thread with a pole for dates and on topic feedback?
