20 - 21OCT -> 4 Wheelin Axedale/Eppalock area... Who's in?
You just reminded me I have a heap of maps of victoria on dvd somewhere, Ill see if I can find the ones you'll be needing, or if you (or anyone else) wants I can send you a copy of the dvd, there all jpg and about 3gb worth.
Also here's a helpful trick for copying maps, use a digital cameras in macro mode. A mates old man used this technique for his marine maps for the gps.

Damn, forgot about this trick - used it with info boards on uni trips so i didn't need to write it all out myself... worked a treat!daveosubi wrote:Also here's a helpful trick for copying maps, use a digital cameras in macro mode. A mates old man used this technique for his marine maps for the gps.

Hey Subaruby!subaruby wrote:Count me in for a saturday morn start, give me a time and place and i will be there, will also be camping sat night somewhere?
Glad you're in. I guess we'll make it 8am Saturday morning, Carlsruhe BP just off the calder (between woodend and kyneton). Too early let me know. From there we can decide where to go first. Camping out in the bush, i'll have maps tomorrow fingers crossed.
Anything else you need to know, send a text/PM or post here.
Cheers

COM'ON VICs, GET YOUR A INTO G AND PACK THE CAR FOR THIS WEEKEND...
Now, where was i?
Yeah, maps, i'll have them up tomorrow with any luck. Gotta get a camera past the library mob here at uni, even though its a public place they're real antsy about having camera's around.
5 days to go! but who's counting?
Its still open to anyone else who would like to join us. 2 days, 1 nite...
I'll say no more (this post anyway)

I probabily won't beable to get these up now... found out tonight that my radiator is more than half blocked, no wonder the car overheats on trips at speed - never in town, traffic or 4wd'n (so far). I hope to have the problem sorted thursday nite when i get my hands on another radiator, if not, i'll try to rod my old one (wish me luck). Either way, i'll be there 8am saturday.El_Freddo wrote:Yeah, maps, i'll have them up tomorrow with any luck.
See you then, hope for some rain up benders way (will drop fire risk and may create some muddy fun).

Maps!!
Here we are, some quick maps...

Camp area - junction near the "Kimbolton" sign.

Mt Sugarloaf, near Axedale. One of the places we will be visiting.
<- North is this way (didn't get time to orientate the map)

Heathcote area, potential visit. Never been here before so could be fun.
Sorry its so short, about to get booted from uni library.
I hope to have some other maps up shortly of camp area (scribbled on) and the meet point.
Cheers

Meeting point: Carlsruhe BP servo as below. The freeway wasn't on my map, so i drew it in. Make sure you get the Carlsruhe Lancefield Exit, you'll see the servo, its the only thing around.

I apologise about the map, it was in the fold of my VICroads country victoria version 5 map book, i cannot remember the map number, but its either in the 40's or 50's - use the town map numbers to find the larger map if you have the book.
The camp site is noted here as is the rough area of the kiosk (also in fold of book).

Hope this helps out more (I know how i'll be organising the next trip...).
2 sleeps to go!*
Again, my contact details are: 0421 184 031
I'm looking forward to meeting up with everyone.
Cheers

*unless you don't sleep one night, and not including nanna naps... or if your reading this on the 19th etc etc

Well, all's in place, my radiator is at the shop atm, will be picking it up later today and putting it in the car - talk about cutting it fine, just hoping it won't be getting any finer than this...
Any other takers? Its still not too late to join in.
I had a thought about dinner, we could go for a counter meal and just use camp for sleeping purposes.
And i'm still yet to go shopping. Things i've remembered that i've left in bendigo:
- water bottles (20L containers)
- camping stove
Not a real big deal, we may have some mates dropping in to say hello and drop my gear off (i'm so un-organised after yesterday's events).
One thing i did organise was the uni camera - "The" D70. I hope to be taking pics the whole weekend like a documentation, i may be using this for my final folio for this semester.
I hope to check this again tonight for anyone who wants a "late entry" (by that i just mean a late notification) and to touch base one last time before we meet up.

Hey mate,
my mate and I will be cooking on the camp stove food always tastes better that way under starlight. I will have my camp stove with me so dont stress too much about that. I will also have my camera and video camera on board as well.
I have several vicmaps printed out of the general area to bring as well.
cheers mate
ps one sleep to go

"Text" summary version of the trip report!
Well, we had a ball!
The breakdown:
-The cruiser didn't arrive (meant an all subi effort).
-subi87 blew his heater core after a top effort on a difficult climb, was just missing a locker or LSD for that extra help
-I backed over a rock while trying to re-attempt a climb, denting up my fuel tank then i punctured a tyre a few minutes later when I was completing the climb. My muffler putty dropped out twice, now Ruby Scoo sounds like a lawn mower
-Subaruby had a good time in his well set up MY, going home without any problems/scars
Saturday saw us cruising around the bendigo area early on, moving out to eppalock for a little visit then spending pretty much the rest of the day out at mt sugarloaf.
Sunday we checked out a range at Heathcote having little sucess before finding a little track that opened up to bigger things and more fun (where i did all my "personal markings" on my car).
Then we went home with plans of another trip...
Pics up tomorrow in a new thread (if subaruby or suby87 haven't already started one).
I'd like to thank everyone who followed this thread, with a special thanks to those who came on the trip, without you guys it would have been a little dull
And for those who couldn't make it, we hope to see you next time!
Cheers
