Ahaa.... w'sup naked guy with the shotgun?
Things are slowly coming along, time has been tightly budgetted too.
Having to time noisy power tool use around the 1st Mate's sleeping schedule, plus a heavy time at work ATM.
Still smiling though.
Adam's mig welder is totally possessed, he has these shockingly bad instructions that came with it that describe NOTHING like the controls.
It's stuck on this spot welding mode which spits 1cm of wire every second then stops...it makes it near on impossible to run a bead.
I have been doing some tack welding but basically I am waiting for..
Adam to finish marking out the steel for the trailer he is building
(I will help to speed things along)
so Darryl the welding legend can come and weld it up and set the mig up properly for me.
It's all a chain of favours.
Plus swapping a new donk into Howards Brumby.
Sheesh. Its all go here Godfather!

jeez i love this thread
side by side looks better but what about weight distribution will it make much of a difference to handling?

I think inline would be better as I want to be able to run with just one tank and remove the other to fill up if the boat is still in the water.
Plus 100 litres is a heap of fuel even for an EJ22 running WOT.

my last 4wd that i built and had fun scaring subarus on fire trails:twisted:
full NSW rego. 270liters diesel. 140liters of water. airide suspension on front axle.
self contained for a week with 6 adults. Island cab was cut and narrowed 300mm to fit the chassis.
Great fun off road. Now lives in FIJI as a mobile dentists truck.

Beer shmeer...
They are going to get me some serious upriver range.
Fuel is harder to find than beer where I want to go.

From experiance of mucking round in small boats most my life I would be a little concerned over the total loading in the boat, EJ22, Jet unit, 100L gas, tanks, steering gear,2 people, gear, dog, rifle etc
Just got me thinking about free board is all as this is a lot more gear than a 20L plastic fuel tank and a 15hp outboard!!
Dont get me wrong, I think the concept is fantastic, in a mildly freaky kind of way, right up my alley really.
Just hate to see you launch it to discover it has 3inchs of freeboard, as you have probably experianced you need a fair bit of freeboard for when you drop into your own hole coming off the plane.

Brumberty,
Just wanted to say that this is a great thread. I love the idea - one of my mates dad's tinny had a jet unit powered by a turbo'd suzuki motor from a little sierra. He tells me that they used to ski behind this thing!
Anyway, its looking good, I'll be keeping an eye on this thread as i have been for a while now
Any plans for the boat over easter?
Cheers
Bennie

Fuel Keg
Mounting the kegs inline will increase the roll rate of your hull, especially since you've covered most of your chines. Side by side might be too much weight, too far forward.
Having two kegs will mean a large weight change as you burn your fuel load. Not too good for trim.
I'd go for just the one keg, sideways. Fill the other with fuel for the Captain.
Keep the weight low, if you want stability.
Have you considered making a double walled intake flow tube for the jet unit as your heat exchanger, letting you run coolant and not have your donk corroded out? Theres a lot of fast moving cold water in there, might be just the ticket.

Gracias Battlewagon, Its what I came up with too regarding the fuel "cell" location.
Progress has been inching along, ribs are cut, I have sealed the eleventytrillion rivet heads with a wonder product, got a great plan sorted out for the new pontoons along each side, waiting for a big weldathon when I can get the welders time.
Lots of holes still, about 30 bits to tack in for me and a deadline.
Ahem........... Around Australia day we will have a new crew member for the good ship in the family.
I have found that there is a big delay in superfoulous projects when babies are born.
Wonderfull little time wasters they are.
Peace everyone.
The jet boat will be hitting water this spring, whether it floats is a matter of opinion.
As I recently heard....
"Don't confuse a great deal of vibration and noise with speed".

Still ticking over on the jet boat.
I have had a design change regarding the engine position, no major drama.
The Minister of finances has approved a request for a Mig welder, if I go halves with a mate we may even go for a tig.
I have tried two borrowed migs and the wire feed issues drive me crazy....
Here is some inspiration for us all,
