Alex's ej20g conversion

Post by Alex » Tue Jul 22, 2008 7:17 pm

hey hey.

Not sure if yas all knew, but i managed to hydrolock my shiny new EJ22 on the weekend.(was in the car for about a month)

stuff it. Went to swan autos this arvo and sorted a RS legacy frontcut for her. Its got about 100,000km on it and im going to hear it running either tomorrow or the next day. Should have the new frontcut home by the weekend ready for the conversion.

Gotta do the usual stuff, beaf up the pressure plate and all that nonsense.

Plans are more boost, ssq bov, maybe a verso tune or something. Im yet to decide.

Watch this space for the full conversion writeup! With stacks of pics.

all i can say is BRING ON THE TURBO!!!

Sounds like you just wanted a turbo so had to get rid of the EJ22 to "persuade" yourself to swing that way.

Damn shame about the EJ22 though, how I want one (and will be getting one... bloody uni taking all my time and money )

Good luck with the conversion, it shouldn't be too hard for you to do with the EJ22 ground work already done...

Cheers

picked up the cut yesterday

the thing runs uber good. Nothing to complain about at all! Zero leaks anywhere, zero lifter tap, everything is shmicko

pulled out the wiring and other bits and pieces off it today. Motor is ready to come out of front cut.

see pics.

Being a half cut I'm guessing its an import? How much do they go for these days?

thats a secret.:D

People have got them for abit less than i payed, but they are for higher km motors. I payed $1800. I reckon its worth every cent, cos nothing needs to be done to it and its uber low km. Its got less km than my liberty which is 10years younger!

before you put the motor in it would be worth spending the $$$ on a new timing belt and pulleys, easier to do out of the car, oh and spark plugs and all the stuff....

yeh, already got timing belt and stuff. Just need to do the plugs. I heard they are a pest to change in a lifted car cos the heads come out right next the chassis rails. Iridiums fo show!

So you gonna use the leggy gearbox or the L? You would nearly make your money back selling the box.

This gear box is not the best with regards to first gear . The pinon side is very thin with a anti vibration plate on the back of it . Treat it with ease & it will last.
