That maybe true Suby Wan but your turbo EA is also MPFI (EFI)... My last MPFI EA82 got 730kms to a full tank til it was pretty much empty. I'm spewing that I didn't take it to the nearest servo to fill it up and find out the exact litriage used. That trip was from Adelaide to Woodend via Talem Bend - Bordertown - Horsham - Ararat - Castlemaine - Woodend.

Even when thrashing the guts out of the MPFI I was getting about 10L/100km or so. The carbie EA82 that is the replacement (keeps me going for now) gets crap results compared to what I had with the MPFI. Last night I had done 388km to 48 litres!

A tired motor will use more fuel - the carbie motor in my L must be getting tired (or I have the spark set wrong) cos I don't feel any real power until 4k RPM and beyond. Not really a problem unless something goes wrong (touch wood it doesn't) before the EJ goes in...

As for fuel leaks, all you need is a bit of weeping around the carbie and you'll be "using" more fuel - you might see this best by taking off the air filter, turning your ignition on for a few seconds, off, then on for a few seconds (repeat a few times to prime the fuel lines good and proper) - you shouldn't see any fuel around any part of the carbie. Pump the throttle a few times and see if anything shows up. Do the same with the motor running and up to temp.

Other than that it comes down to driving style. If you're like me and have a "drive like you stole it" driving style then you're never going to pull any decent economy figures...

I know what its like to be a uni student, did that for 6 years... If you look after your subi, it will look after you ;)

I had gone for a cruise down to the coast the other day and filled the tank completely.

At the end of the trip I had almost no fuel left in the tank and had only traveled 390km.

Is this normal for an EA82? I would have thought being 1.8l I would have got atleast 600km out a tank (Considering our 3.8l V6 BMW 528 gets 800k off a tank)

This is the first time since I have had the car that I have filled the tank completely (yes, Im tight but I am a student) so I was stunned to see how little I got off a full tank.

What could be causing this.

I know its not the send unit as I just installed a new one.
the answer to your economy is in your signature,it has no back pressure , the exhaust is too big.

A stock exhaust will give you back your economy, and some torque too.

I get around 9 litres/100km on the highway, no ac, some hills, not towing. around town maybe 11-12 litres/100km, with ac on, I can't remember, towing a trailer was a few extra litres/100km can't remember either :(

standard but slightly worn ea82 in a 94 l series wagon, road tyres, fussed over a LOT.

If the economy has gone down that fast id say your valves have had it, i was getting 300kays from 70 litres in my 4.2ltr on the highway! once the heads came off we found that 2 valves were screwed.
