EA81 overflow radiator cap

Hi guys, have been reading the posts regarding fitting an overflow bottle to my EA81 brumby. I have a bottle and hoses set up but was just wondering what sort of radiator cap to use.

I realise it needs to be a return style cap, just after a cap part number or a car model's cap that will fit it properly.

I couldn't find this information in the posts.

P.S. Does anyone know what would cause an EA81 to develop a ticking noise similar to lifter noise when the engine has warmed up? No noise when cold, only when warm.

Has it got adjustable tappets? if so they may be the prob. Oil warms up and thins.

Do you have the small cap or the large cap, if you have the small cap then the liberty one will work (make sure it is the same psi rating) If you have the big cap then go to a parts store and ask for a 13 psi (I think from memory) return radiator cap.

It does have adjustable tappets, I'll try tightening them a bit and see what happens.

It has the bigger style radiator cap. Is this a fairly standard size across many cars?

When you do your tappets make sure you follow the instructions in a gregorys or an FSM.

Standard issue cap for many cars just make sure you get the right one.

Last time i did it hot and it is nice and quiet on start up but that's when the ticking/rattle noise became noticeable. What is the lowest gap i can safely set them to when hot?

I've always done mine cold. Not at home at the mo, but i'm sure someone can give you gap sizes. As Toonga says you have to be really careful when adjusting.
Most rediculous positioned radiator cap i've come across.

On the EA81 it is not required to have an 'overflow' bottle. The system was designed and built without one, so adding one just creates haedaches. If the sytem is not working correctly then you need to investigate why not.

The correct cap is the one that suits your year and model of your car. Most aftermarket places will have listings for the correct one.

Yes.. Oils.. check you are running the correct one for your car.. I'm guessing you'r oil is too thin when warm

It's all working fine, i just wanted to fit one so it didn't overflow on the road and waste coolant on initial fill-up and just to have that bit extra in reserve just in case something did happen.

Last service I ran penrite 20w60 as i was thinking thin oil too.
