New Project begins

Post by 85wrx » Wed Dec 19, 2007 6:36 pm

Today I drove the main part of the new project back from Brisbane. A white 1983 coupe auto, full electric optioned, sunroof, digital dash P/S and A/C. The other part of the project is a 94 WRX 1/2 cut. I have had this for some weeks and even managed to connect in a fuel pump and a battery to get it running. I have since been informed that it has a closed deck block (bonus).

Things that I will be completing with the conversion:
1. Engine, drive train, AWD, brakes with 5 stud conversion.
2. Fit complete dash pad, climate control and A/C from a later model subaru.
3. Modify a body kit (AE86??) front and back bars, side skirts. 03 STI scoop
4. Respray after all the work is completed (unsure of the new color)
5. Mags, 3 " exhaust, coilovers for the front.

I think that covers about all for the moment. Funds permitting I am aiming to complete all this within 2 yrs. I have added pictures of the puzzle destined to become one.

Started the process of stripping the car and removing anything that is not required for the conversion. So far the body panels off the front end removed, engine bay cleared removing all brackets that will not be required with the EJ20 fitted, dash and heater stuffed removed.
So far the WRX climate control is temp fitted removing parts of the old wheel well(just lucky that it has all rusted out anyway). Modified the WRX dash pad and temp fitted still alot of work to go. Engine and gearbox temp fitted to see what fits what needs modding and what is not required. WRX struts and brakes fitted on the front.
Here is a couple of pics taken today.

Keep it white! It looks awesome in its original trim... you know what that means -> SLEEPER!!

You haven't mucked around with the work yet either looking at the start date of this thread. Good work, keep it up!

Guys,
Here is what the car is up too. The whole front end of the car has been removed, modded, massaged and re-fitted. The engine is now in to get the rest of the work completed. The only down side is the original radiator fans only have 2mm clearence. The whole idea with what has been done was to fit the WRX radiator and A/C package. The next step is the gearbox crossmember and the rear end. This should complete the mechanical side of things, with only little ares to complete.
The next major hurdle after that will be the dash pad and surrounding components.
Regards

Well you have real busy, I can't believe just how much work you have done. Its looking good what you have done so far.
Is that the WRX radiator in there or have you had one made up for the car?
Its going to be some little rocket when your done, keep the pic's coming, can't wait to see how it turns out.

Been slowly ploding away at this. Here are some newer pics of some of the parts I am in the process of converting on the coupe.

The radiator is from the WRX. Only the top mounting brackets have been modded on this. It helps that the lower radiator support is also modded to suit.

It was dual headlights but I have converted it too a single version. This was to allow the room to fit all the wrx radiator and condenser.
