Newbie in Philippines
Hi everybody! I'm a new member with my first Subaru (Legacy/Liberty BG5).
I live in an undeveloped part of the Philippines (Palawan), and had originally planned on buying a regular 4WD but was tempted to the Subaru as it is a one owner car, supplied by Subaru Philippines, well looked after, and with 87K on the clock. (Cars are expensive here, I got this one at a good price - AUD 6750).
Because of the state of the roads here I need a lift. Having read through these forums, I thought I'd go for a simple change to OB struts, so I asked Subaru Philippines for price and availability of OB struts to fit to my car.
The reply was - "FYI, Outback suspension cannot be fitted to your legacy 1998.
Mounting on the shock tower is also different.
Best regards,
Mike Luyun

What do you guys say?

I'd say that they have no idea of an Outback.. as the Outback is a BG Legacy with a factory body lift and taller struts.
And ofcourse the EJ25 engine

I say you are the manager of operations at the main Subaru dealership in the Philippines and picked up a cheap trade in. Forester or outback fronts will fit, only difference on the rear mountings is between sedan and wagon, Outback will fit but you should change lateral arm mounts and all other lift points.

You would be best to find someone dismantling an Outback and grab parts from that.. like Tom said.. make sure you get the lateral rear arms and all the necessary raised items (i.e. engine x-member extensions, steering extension, etc..) and you should be fine. I haven't seen anyone over here in the west stripping one or I'd offer to help
New KYB struts and Lovell Springs are available over here from W.A. Suspension. I'd use these and use your original strut tops and you'll be fine

I have a 96 outback so if need be I can make a list of the spacers on my factory one before I put my lift kit in!
